Trade secret [emoji6]
Not really, but it's a very general question.

It depends on some variables, mainly the composition and the type of handle. Obviously a basic 5 ply with a plain wood handle doesn't take as long as a composite blade with a complex handle. Usually the materials are almost ready to use, but every now and then I have to order, or go pick them up myself, and process them. I never build just one blade, I work in batches in order to minimize down time. I try to plan ahead and fit a number of blades so that the process will last about 1 week.

Wow that's a big S! 😁 The blade is based on a Ovtcharov ALC, inner fiber with a bigger head size and a thicker core. However, this is a very light specimen, which will of course compromise power, but at the same time makes it very nimble for close to the table play.

- Limba / Ayous / ALC / Ayous / ALC / Ayous / Limba
- 80.4g
- 6.2mm
- 158x152mm
- ST (98x24x28mm)

Great! Maybe it's the Cedar on the handle? 🤔

That red cedar you've used for the bottom end of the handle is the aromatic one used in... water closets for instance to repel those... "smells" you know ;)

Good news is that this blade won't suffer from moth or any other wood eating insects attack though.

The wood I used for the bottom of the handle was purple heart. The rest of the handle is Spanish Cedar, which is not a cedar at all, but it's known for its distinctive odor. I said "maybe" but I knew exactly what it was [emoji6]

This was a custom order for a anti/SP player. We took a risk on the composition and unfortunately it played like a 💩, but damn it was pretty...

- Limba / Blue Fig / Ebony / Ayous / Ebony / Blue Fig / Limba
- 92.2g
- 5.95mm
- 1290Hz
- Balance: 2.2cm (Low/Very Low)

Hi Sergio,

I thought about a somewhat similar blade to try at some time (nothing like this actually, but with the base idea of harder wood plies inwards - except the core), could you describe, how it was felt to play with this blade, or could you tell us the anti/SP player's feedback in details?

Just to be clear, the 💩 part was an exaggeration and an inside joke. It's not the fact that the blade plays badly, he has a very uncommon style and not every blade will suit him. He tried a lot of blades lately and didn't found one he would like. The comment he made was that the blade felt kind of numb, some slower shots would go into the net, and more aggressive shots would go long. That seems to me like the nonlinear behavior of some inner fiber blades, I blame that on the ebony layer which might have been too thick for what we were going for.

I'm not gonna argue how this shape will give you a bigger sweetspot or whatever... Honestly, I just wanted to make a defensive blade in the shape of a shield. When I think of a shield, the Knights Templar come to mind, hence the whole theme. The thick Mahogany outer layers make this blade relatively hard and stiff, so it's not a classic chopping blade but more suitable for a modern defender.

Available FS.

That’s a crazy looking blade. Might be your best one yet! Also like your new printing technique, looks very clean.

The new printing technique was one of the things I wanted to showcase, I can basically print anything with perfect quality now. I wish I had come up with something fancier, but it's not easy at all 😅.

This blade introduces a new fiber I've been using - Spectra.

Spectra and Dyneema (used by Tibhar) are Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene fibers. This remarkably durable material is one of the world’s strongest and lightest fibers. Performance wise, this fiber feels soft, with a moderate speed and sweet spot increase, but it's main characteristics are the lightness and the loud sound it produces on hard impact. This makes it a very user friendly and pleasant fiber to play with.

The handle one is Mexican Granadillo, a very hard and heavy wood.
