Is Dima finished ?

I genuinely think so. He was never super talented - just worked hard and muscles through everything. Age and time definitely impact that sort of style much much faster than someone with finesse - Waldner, Samsonov, even Karakasevic to some extent.

Halfway through the day and it has been an awesome one.

De Nutte and Ni Xia Lian put on a tactical masterclass against the clueless Li Jie/Li Qian. Pretty much flawless throughout the entire match.
Now they are playing Mittelham/Lang and have a great chance.

Sabine Winter was very impressive against Li Jie. Controlled aggression and really good execution for the most part.

Franziska was almost perfect against Apolonia and is a huge threat to Boll IMO (who was playing better today than previously).

Samsonov is amazing, not much else can be said.

Highlight of the day (by far!) was Karlsson-Kou Lei. Kristian came back from 3-1 and 5-0 in the 6th (plus probably some other comebacks). Best match I've seen in these championships so far. Should be interesting against Freitas.

That is not all true. His shots have a lot of power and this is his great advantage. Of course he lacks of footwork and age will not be his advantage in that case. It is also possible that he will change his strategy like Timo Boll taking ball early and play more spin and compete at high level again.

Dima was injured and spent several months without training at all, just recovering so that he can play without pain. It takes a lot of time to bounce back after such break. The same thing happened with Timo, after his injury in 2015 everybody was posting "Oh, Timo is done", now he shows amazing table tennis.
