No surprises !

Top 4 seeds in semifinals

Top 8 seeds in round of 8

Yeah, tournaments like this - and the Asian Games - with a very limited number of players per country are often not very exciting in the Women’s singles :-(

However, on the World Tour I feel that this has been a excellent year for Women’s TT - mainly due to the China vs Japan rivalry which is becoming more and more interesting :)

Heck, even the “China vs China” matches have mostly been great ;-)

But with only two Chinese and Japanese players present, there just aren’t that many potential REALLY high quality match ups :-/

Hirano really struggling. She needs to change something. She's in a slump

Mostly serve and receive problems. Most of her sidespin serves went long and Ishikawa killed them all. Also look how she answered backspin medium long serve (those with high toss) - all of them long and Kasumi was just waiting to kill again.

“石川佳纯的球技最近有新的改变和进步,我虽然在8月的保加利亚公开赛战胜了她,但过程比较艰苦,所以,明天的半决赛应该也很艰难,希望自己发挥更好。”丁宁表示。
"Kasumi Ishikawa's skills have recently undergone new changes and progress. Although I defeated her in the Bulgarian Open in August, the match was rather difficult, so tomorrow's semi-final should be very difficult, I hope I can play better." Ding Ning said.

So dont retire yet Ishikawa. For once your victory would make zeio to stop posting about your retirement. LOL

I have a good feeling she can go past DN this time. DN has not been in invincible form of late and this is Ishikawa"s best chance.

This is the typical CNT PR, every single time. Li Xiaoxia said she expected a difficult match against Fukuhara in the SF at Rio Olympics. Memory of the outcome is still fresh...

You know what's dangerous? When they don't take their opponents seriously. They blame it on "injury" for DN's surprise straight-game defeat to Minnie Soo at the WTTC, right? A few days later, along with DN, Li Sun debunked that on national television, explaining that it was no injury, but in fact was due to her "on vacation" attitude.

When talking about the semi-final opponent, the world's queen Ding Ning, who has excellent strength and she has the home advantage, Ishikawa claimed that she has found an effective way to restrain Ding Ning: "In order to find a countermeasure against Ding Ning, I have found a lot of left-handed players for targeted training, and painstakingly simulated receiving Ding Ning's service", so she appeared confident. Ishikawa said that she wants to repeat the success of Naomi Osaka, who just won the US Open women’s singles championship. "Her final with Serena at the time was also a huge pressure backed by home crowd support, and she ultimately won, so I will learn from her!!" She emphasized that she will not fear the Chinese audience cheering on Ding Ning, and will strive for the miracle "Naomi Osaka of table tennis".

I gave her a pass and counted only the singles, how nice of me!

If you count the doubles too, it's 18+1 vs 1. Should've gone with that, seeing 1 >>> 0.

German Open 2010 doubles final thats all for Kasumi. Fukuhara was on fire in that match !
Ding is not playing with Li Xiaoxia but another weaker Li.

Also never won against Li Xiaoxia 0-10 and Liu Shiwen 0-10. Kasumi is good, but just not as good as the cream of the crop, sadly. Her stats against the next gen Big 2 (Zhu Yuling and Chen Meng) aren't pretty either. At least she's got a win against a next-next gen star Sun Yingsha, 0-2 against Wang Manyu though.

checked the stats, DING Ning had some unusual losses to underdogs, SOO, ITO, HIRANO, and further in the past, FUKUOKA, FUKUHARA, JIANG, and more notably the Korean choppers KIM, PARK... ISHIKAWA couldn't get ONE victory, even in a best-of-5, or in an ITTF open, or before DING was the big singles champion. Tough for her, though i like her very much.

Right, in her early days, DN had trouble with choppers. And if you notice, many of the players up above play pips. Jiang Huajun for stance, was Zhang Yining's kryptonite(4 vs 1), and since DN plays a similar style(in ZYN's own words), so no wonder there.
