Unlucky that Truls had to face Wang Chuqin already in the quarter. Kha Janak should have been eliminated in the quarter final stage instead, he's level is not on the same level as Lin, Harimot, Truls and Chuqin.

The US interfered with the draw, perhaps? Or, the ITTF world ranking is a joke?

Has FZD visibly improved in the last 6 months? That is questionable.

Yes, FZD added much more variations to his serve return and to his third ball attack. His mid-distance backhand become more stable and lethal. HT’s Achilles heel is his play one to two meters from the table.

Sure ... 21 yo, matured, fully developed physically compared to the 15yo teenager which still grows, probably adjusting his technique. Free bird, we are being sarcastic because your comparison is somewhat 'sarcastic' ... what do you want him to do? The kid just has beaten 2 years older fantastically playing college ... we tend to forged very easily how young he still is ...

You are missing my point. I’m talking about improvement here. Comparing delta fzd vs delta HT for the past six month, not fzd vs ht. It seems HT is grinding through the tournament with his sheer determination, not his technique.

Which is more impressive, imo. HT isn't playing well this week by his usual standard. And he is still winning because he just wants it more.

Sure get your point ... and I hope, you know how to compare those (must be age dependent) deltas ... sounds like a big claim ... : ) I think Japan team has a very hard task here actually. For sure Tomo is a prodigy that needs to play in Tokyo 2020, but at the same time, seems obvious, that at his age they need to be very careful with the training intensity they apply to him.

It is impressive... until he has to play against more skilled/powerful opponents who are just as hungry for victory as he is (which is literally everyone on CNT, because they have to fight very hard for opportunities to represent China in international events).
