Ran into this video on the Olympic Channel. A general overview of China's state-run program and their goal to bridge with the world. Subbed in 11 languages.

Land of Legends: Asia-Pacific

The video shows big part of it, however there is still some propaganda BS like always. What kind of innovation and how they can measure it in percentage?:) If I discover new weird serve style or very unusual grip in the lowest league somewhere in Transilvania does it count as innovation and do Chinese TT statistics capture that? Does new booster or glue or color of TT shirt count as innovation? The same weight as discovery of multiball training, inverted rubber, tension sponge...?

Don't get me wrong, these numbers like over 2m of active player just in Beijing all-year league are mind blowing, state sponsored system well made, intensive trainings and ability to teach small kids basic strokes up to aggressive-out-of-table-both-wings looping in just 2-3 years is amazing. Studying opponents' game and styles, shadowing, intense multi-ball... probably best training clubs and coaches are in China and TT sport would be less then a half without China, no doubts. But saying how much they "innovate" in the video doesn't show the real reasons.

Also as there were a lot of mentions about TT innovations, maybe there are some more into that?

After much digging the past few days, I finally got hold of the source. What a drag!

The stats on invention and innovation come from the article "中国乒乓球技术发展规律及趋势", roughly "Principles and Trends of Development for Chinese Table Tennis Techniques", published in 1990 and coauthored by Qiu Zhonghui(1st female world champion from China), Wu Huanqun(renowned table tennis researcher) et al.

Many of the English translations are off. Check out the next one I translated below.

The list got updated in another article, "中國乒乓球隊技術進步的哲學分析", roughly "Philosophical Analysis of the Technical Progress for China Table Tennis Team", published in 2006.
