2012 Hungarian Open - ITTF World Tour, 17 Jan 2012 - 21 Jan 2012, Budapest, HUN

Live matches of the Hungarian Open 2012 can be watched in our ITTF Live Streaming which has integrated Chat

The Hungarian Open will be held from Tuesday 17th to Saturday 21st January 2012 in Budapest, what an event this is going to be! The Hungarian Pro Tour is the first series of the new World Tour system of 2012! After an amazing tournament at the Pro Tour Grand Finals last year I think we are all in a treat with this one.

The best meet yet again in Hungary for. Below is the list of the top 32 seeds playing with the exception of Timo Boll who has not entered for reasons we don't know of. Vladimir Samsonov has also not included himself in the draw. This is going to be a big tournament so lets get started by discussing the seeds and the event. We can use this thread as a means to display all the latest results, videos and news from this spectacular event!

Ma Long the World no.1 enters the tournament as number 1 seed!

I am happy to see Kreanga is going to play! :)
No Timo Boll, but seems he has no interest in pro tours, interesting combo in men doubles seing Zhang with Xu or Shiwen with Ying..
This is going to be a great competition, seems again for Ma Long vs. Zhang Jike finals, Ma Long vs. Xu Xin and Wang Hao vs. Zhang Jike semifinals.. :)

Who will win? :)

Nice to see Ma Lin and Chen Qi playing together, hopefully they will do well.
As for the singles, I'm just waiting for the day when Xu Xin surprises us all(except me ;)).

the way ma long and zhang jike is dominating the field , unless a big upset they are going to play in the finals. Also with the Olympics round the corner , I am sure both will try to hold the cards close to their chest and not reveal any new strategies , so most probably singles will taken by Ma Long again. However, it will be interesting to see how the doubles play out. Looks like Coach LGL is having second thoughts about Ma Lin and wants to try out Xu Xin with Zhang Jike. However, I will still bet on Ma Lin and Chen Qi considering their history and Ma Lin 's special skills in doubles.

no doubt, that my vote is for ma long :) hope, he will continue winning. but zhang jike or xu xin could stop him. and liu shiwen in woman single should win of course ;) but i think its also interesting, how the young corean guys will play. zhang jike and xu xin in doubles should be the best constellation. xu xin is one of the best players you can have in the doubles i think. and liu shiwen with fan ying ... funny to watch, i think :D

Kim Min Seok will be one to watch.

Also, did anyone else notice Ryu Seung Min is playing doubles with Leung Chu Yan from Hong Kong... that seems odd to me, especially since there are many Korean players he could have paired with. I thought he'd be with Lee Jung Woo.

Oh, just checked to verify, and Ryu is actually playing with Seo Hyun Deok.
Might want to fix up the thread.
Although it's cool to see the occasional multinational pairs, like Freitas and Gacina.

Corrected the doubles issue. Well spotted Matt :)

The multinational doubles pairs are awesome , just wished it happened more often.

predictions? hmmm. Another ZJK-Ma Long final? I dunno, it depends on the draw. I'll predict the finals when the draw is released haha.
For the doubles event, Zhang Jike and Xu Xin, wow! I remember their victory against Ma Lin and Wang Hao! (English Open 2011)
They're an amazing tandem. Imagine 1 right shakehand and 1 left penhold - full of advantages!

If I am counting it right, Ma Lin will play Kalinikos Kreanga in round 2 :)
That can be pretty awesome match.. But Kreanga never beat Ma Lin before.. will he be able to do it now? :)
Then Chen Qi vs. Gionis Panagiotis will be great too :)
Steger will catch Christian Suss .. too bad that 2 german players will face each other that soon..
And Patrick Baum will play Chen Weixing.. and Chen can beat him for sure,..
This is really going to be interesting :)

They actually perform well from what I've remembered. Freitas and Gacina took gold in the recent ETTC, and 2 years earlier Schlager/Trinko Keen took silver in the ETTC. There are not many multinational pairs, but it seems they can work quite well.
