Marvellous 12 (地表最强十二人) 2019
Preliminary details for this year's Marvellous 12 have been published sporadically over the past two days. In a nutshell, it will be broken down into two main phases.
Phase 1 – Selection of Final 6 (12 to 17 February 2019)
15 and 16 players from each of the men's and women's team respectively will be selected to participate in a round-robin competition – successful selection is based on his/her performance in 2018, both internally and internationally. Six of them from each team will then progress to Phase 2.
Updated as of 17 Feb: The players who have emerged victorious are as follows:
- Zhao Zihao, Xu Chenhao, Fang Bo, Zhou Kai, Yu Ziyang, Xue Fei
- Sun Yingsha, Chen Xingtong, Wang Yidi, Gu Yuting, Sun Mingyang, He Zhuojia
Phase 2 – Actual 'Marvellous 12' (28 February to 3 March 2019)
The twelve winners from phase 1 will face off against the following seeded players in a round-robin format again:
Women's Team: Ding Ning, Liu Shiwen, Chen Meng, Zhu Yuling, Wang Manyu, Wu Yang
Men's Team: Ma Long, Xu Xin, Fan Zhendong, Lin Gaoyuan, Liang Jingkun, Wang Chuqin (Zhang Jike voluntarily withdrew because he felt that his training over the past months has not been very routinised)
The eventual winner and runner-up will each gain one out of the five available WTTC Singles Event slots allowed.

*Ma Long has withdrawn from the trials to focus on recovering his knee
