Hi-res version. The slogan 愛乒才會贏 is a pun on the immensely popular Tai-pop song 愛拼才會贏(Success Comes with Hard Work) performed by singer and former politician Yeh Chi-tien from Taiwan.

So when exactly the second stage starts?
I guess those matches will be streamed, right?

Dates of Play for Phase 2

1) 28 Feb (Thursday) 13:00
2) 28 Feb (Thursday) 19:00
3) 1 Mar (Friday) 13:00
4) 1 Mar (Friday) 19:00
5) 2 Mar (Saturday) 13:00
6) 2 Mar (Saturday) 19:00
7) 3 Mar (Sunday) 13:00
8) 3 Mar (Sunday) 19:00

Both men and women will play off at the same time, but the exact schedule is not out yet (at least not to my knowledge). All matches will be streamed live on QQ sports while CCTV5 will only cover some of those.

Too bad at that time I will be watching our national championships, so I wont be able to watch this..

It is confirmed that Ma Long will not play in the upcoming Marvellous 12 as he doesn't want to risk setting back the rehab progress for his knee injury. However, he will still head to Shenzhen and be part of the spectating crowd. Yan An, who placed 7th in phase 1, will take his place to make up the number.

Unfortunately, sports qq live stream only works in China which I don't have access to. The best bet for those of us who reside outside of China is to pray that CCTV5 covers as many matches as possible as there are some third party sites broadcasting that channel or that some good samaritan will upload the games soon after they have aired.

Does this mean Ma Long won't defend his world title? Sorry I am not aware of he qualifies automatically or if it is like Olympics selection process.

Nah, the internal trials only decide ONE out of the five players (one reason why Marvellous 12 is seen as a sham by some critics as the other places are still determined by other less transparent methods) that the Chinese National Team is allowed to enter. Due to his achievements, Ma Long is a shoo-in as long as he is deemed to be physically fit. Another reason for withdrawing from Marvellous 12 is because he had just resumed training last week and doesn't want to be plunged into such an intense competition so quickly and abruptly. Instead, he's trying to regain his form and momentum routinely, particularly to ensure that he will be up for the subsequent closed-door training camp leading up to WTTC 2019.

Sorry, offtopic ....

Does CTTA publish lineups for men's and women's teams announced for participation in ITTF tournaments on its website?
(What is Japan doing on JTTA website...)

Full schedule is out:

Things to look out for:

1) Watershed moment for Liu Shiwen

In the previous internal trials (2017), Liu Shiwen topped the charts with 11 wins and zero losses. Can she replicate that miraculous success again this year? Particularly after her bitter loss to Hina Hayata recently. Did that harden or break her spirit.

2) Fate of the Penholders

Zhao Zihao and Xue Fei both performed well in phase 1 to qualify for phase 2, especially the former who placed first among his colleagues. How well will these two penholders, coupled with Xu Xin, do at the upcoming Marvellous 12?

3) Underdogs

Lin Gaoyuan was touted as the greatest dark horse in the 2017 trials, placing behind only Fan Zhendong. Who will replace him this year as the underdog?

4) Lin Gaoyuan or Liang Jingkun

Lin Gaoyuan has been groomed to replace the void left behind by Zhang Jike ever since the latter's injuries had caused him to take a backseat for quite some time. However, Liang Jingkun seemed to be performing equally as well as, or even better than, Lin Gaoyuan recently. Given that is the case, can either of them use the upcoming Marvellous 12 to prove that he is an indisputable core player of the men's team?

5) Sun Yingsha and Chen Xingtong

Among the new generation of Chinese female table tennis players, Wang Manyu, Chen Xingtong and Sun Yingsha have been hailed as the most promising. However, it seems that WMY has outperformed her other colleagues in 2018 as she was excused from participating in the initial selection round. Despite so, SYS and CXT have proven that they deserve the praises lavished upon them by emerging first and second place respectively in phase 1. Can they continue this winning streak in phase 2?

6) Fan Zhendong and Chen Meng

Fan Zhendong has always been seen as the next player to succeed Ma Long's dominance while Chen Meng is the best performing female player in the CNT recently. Will they be able to secure a WTTC Singles spot for themselves without having to rely on the coaches to grant them one?

7) Pimpled Style of Play

How will pimpled attackers He Zhuojia and Sun Mingyang and pimpled defender Wu Yang fare in Marvellous 12? Who will present the core players with the greatest challenge?

Wouldn't it make more sense for CNT to decide the 4 who are picked first, and therefore don't need to play the Marvellous 12?

That way you wouldn't have a potential pick finishing 8th (for example), in the M12, yet still being picked.......

Appreciate it would seriously diminish the quality in the M12 event, but would potentially avoid the controversy of picking someone who didn't do that well (unless it's not particularly controversial)?
