Absence of top players at the U.S. Open

The top players used to attend the U.S. Open back in the eighties and nineties, but I noticed that they're conspicuously absent in the last decade or so. Good players show up, sure - but I don't think a single players on the men's side in the top 20 was there this year.

Probably because US Open was part of ITTF Pro Tour (now World Tour) back then?

I can't post the link to Wikipedia but if you go to the ITTF World Tour page and look at Tournaments by year you can see US Open was part of the Pro Tour consistently from 96 to 05 (2 years were absent).
