Ito(first at Czech Open 2017), Hirano(first and only time at Czech Open 2019) and now Hayata(first and also only time at WTT Contender Doha 2021) have beaten Ishikawa once on the international stage. Took long enough. All 3 of them have beaten sempai at the All-Japan, Hirano in 2017, Ito in 2018, Hayata in 2019 and 2020.

Japanese Girls have plenty upside. Hina Hayata will break into top10. Youth training system definitely showing results

If only YMY (national pride?) and Suthasini wasn't in a separate quarter of their own, the semis could have become another All Japan Championship (sans senpai).

Jeon is the only koala in play, although she left the assassinate-ito training camp the earliest.

Hayata went from not knowing pips to dissecting pips with surgical precision.

とりあえず伊藤早田の日本ツートップの決勝で一安心
これが石川平野の決勝とかだったら目も当てられなかった
So long as it's a final between Ito and Hayata who are Japan's top 2, then I'm relieved
If it were a final between Ishikawa and Hirano, then zero expectations

早田ヲタ乙w
伊藤はともかく早田がツートップとか 笑わせんな
Hayata Otaku B LOL
Putting Ito aside, Hayata is top 2? Don't make me laugh

Hirano is at least the no. 2, right?
Ishikawa who can't even beat Baum Hayata can't be no. 2, can she?
Prime Ishikawa is also the weakest among the Japan's top players in history, weaker than prime Fukuhara, prime Umehara, prime Oni Hirano[Sayaka Hirano's nickname] and prime Fujinuma

Fujinuma aside, in the final battle against Oni Hirano, heyday Ishikawa lost to the washed-up Oni Hirano
Moreover, the washed-up Oni Hirano is the weakest up against teammates and has lost to all 3 of the then-junior Miu/Mima/Hina, and even lost to the unknown high school students and college students, so it can not be said that the washed-up Oni Hirano is a strong uchi benkei against teammates.
Moreover, Oni Hirano is weakened by the plastic balls, if not as much as Fukuhara, Ito, and choppers.

No men's thread so I'll hijack the women's but can any kind soul briefly summarise what Mizutani-senpai said about XX at 17:12 after 0 wins and 12 losses? Haha, sounds like he's being rather humble here.

He talked about how he lost to XX in the previous encounter after having a big lead, how he had to take revenge on XX in the same way.

o_O Can senpai pull off the unimaginable?

CIC: 8201
Ishikawa: 7805

Difference of 396 points. Seems like senpai has to make it to the finals (+420 or 600) to have any chance of overtaking CIC after her teammate Hayata very helpfully removed the second seed.

Despite the win, Hayata didn't play that well in this match. Took way too many unnecessary risks, especially when serving. Served too many topspin and long. That backspin jab serve got her many points. Should've served more when it got tight.

CIC - 8201 + 55 = 8256
Ishikawa 7805 (+55min,or loss Samara, or....105-210....???)

Another embarrassing defeat for Kasumi. She is the national champion and did well in T-League overall. But in World Cup, Grand finals and Doha she didn't do well.It is very likely she will retire after the Olympics. Just like Ai Fukuhara did after Rio Olympics. (did Sayaka Hirano retire just after London Olympics as well ?)or just retire this year or after next Japan championships if the Olympics are cancelled.probably she will get Ai-chan spot as a commentator on TV as her older teammate contracts will be probably cancelled after her divorce scandal...

I more saw Ai Fukuhara retired due to starting a family. I don't get the concept of retirement in Table Tennis especially when in all honesty these players are young adults. Dima Timo Samsonov older but Table Tennis is not the same as soccer or Tennis. Not like they need to run like crazy for 90 minutes or be on court in the sun for 5 hours.
I still believe physical component is required but not to degree of other sports so longevity is there.

Kasumi is 28, that's not a retirement age. Players 38 still. Less known ranked countries will probably send 40+ years olds to Olympics.
