JNT: We'll take you in, if you need a place to stay after Qatar Open.
CNT: So nice of you, we'll consider it.
(COVID-19 spreads in Japan, South Korea, Iran, Italy...)
LGL: Maybe we should go home.

In the rating confrontation between LSW - ITO, the situation with the cancellation of ITTF tournaments favors ITO ....Even if LSW wins Qatar, it will not come forward ....And then - Japan .... Will the CNT return home after Qatar?

The Japan Table Tennis Association has abandoned plans to accept the Chinese team, which has been unable to return home due to the spread of the novel coronavirus and has been continuing to adjust overseas, to Japan. An official of the association revealed on the 29th. The reason was that the local government, which had been scheduled to accept it, changed its policy in consideration of recent changes in the situation.

According to officials from the association, about 50 Chinese national team members left China in mid-January and participated in the German Open (OP) held from 28th to February 2nd. Since then, a notice has been issued not to return by the China Table Tennis Association, and adjustments are currently being made in Qatar, where the next stop will be.

An official of the Japan Association said, "They are our friends. It is natural that people who are in need of helping if they are in front of them are inevitable." On the other hand, from the beginning, he said, "If Japan spreads further, it might be difficult to accept it."

The plan to accept China table tennis national team, who continues to adjust overseas without returning to China due to the spread of the novel coronavirus, has proven to be difficult on the 29th. While the government requested self-restraint of activities and temporary closure of elementary and junior high schools around the country, the local government, which was originally scheduled to accept it, was abandoned. Officials of the Japan Table Tennis Association revealed.

After leaving China for the tournament in Germany in January, about 50 Chinese national team members have been encouraged not to return by the Chinese Association, and are now adjusting in Qatar, where the World Tour will take place in early March. There are no symptoms such as fever in the team.

The Japanese Association, which had been promoting the acceptance plan, will continue to seek support measures in cooperation with the Chinese team. An official said, "We have not given up (cooperation)." 〔Kyodo News〕

      What does this all mean?

China team. Chance might not be able to play in Japan?

A week or so ago, JTTA extended their hands to the CTTA, saying they could take the CNT in after the Qatar Open until Tokyo 2020. LGL didn't turn it down but also said staying in Japan is one option, with other places in consideration. German TTA and Austrian TTA have also extended their hands.

Now that Japan, South Korea, Iran, Italy and many others have an outbreak, the plan is down the drain. No place is safe now. No one knows what will come next.

As reported by the Japanese media, the folks at JOC intend to "force their way through", citing they've spent so much money now for it to be postponed or cancelled. The IOC says it's still too soon to call it off.

Personally, I want it to go ahead as planned. But given the situation now, I'm not so sure. If it doesn't get contained around much of the world by April or May at the latest, then expect the worst to happen. If postponed, the IOC says it will take place in the same time period in 2021. Honestly, I think cancellation will be more likely.

Either way, even if it doesn't get postponed or cancelled, the damage has been done. This year is screwed.

That doesn't sound like a bad option 2021 being postponed, gives everyone more time, but saying so the hassle to eg, flights and people might lose out on existing flights being non refundable, hopefully few months of monitoring can better decide what is best step to take

yes in in 2months time it will be clearer if this is a Spanish-flu-like pandemic or if it will do limited damage. I think it doesn't depend only on the virus but also in the way we react to it, like the numbers suggest (serious action in China == exponential growth stopped - no action elsewhere == rapid spreading)

Also China winning a battle against the virus doesn't mean winning the war.

It appears folks in Japan are starting to suspect their cases are being un(der)reported. You don't have it if you don't get tested, right?

Korea table tennis blocked by COVID-19, forced to abandon Qatar open
      Nusis input 2020-02-29 18:36 edit 2020-02-29 18:37

The Korean table tennis team has abandoned the Qatar Open.

The Korean table tennis team, led by Kim Taek-soo, was scheduled to leave Qatar via Qatar Airways on March 1 at the start of the day.

However, the Qatar government has taken measures to quarantine foreigners from China and South Korea for 14 days. The team decided to participate in the competition through several channels, but eventually decided not to go to Qatar.

Kim Taek-soo said, “I packed my luggage at Jincheon athletes' village, went to the airport, and came back. The Korean Table Tennis Association and the Embassy tried, but it was not easy. ”

“I didn't think I couldn't go to Qatar Open. Very shocked here. I am worried that if the situation persists and I do not play for a few months, my sense of competition will diminish. It's worrying that we're the only 1 of the top 4 seeding competitors that can't participate, so it's a big loss.”

The Qatar Open is an important stage to build a sense of action ahead of the Tokyo Olympics. The winner and runner-up of mixed doubles can win the ticket for the Olympics.

'Corona 19 Direct Attack' Table Tennis Kim Taek-Shodo enters Qatar Open 'emergency'
      Sports Chosun

"That's right. It's an emergency. The Qatar government is said to be blocking entry."
The voice of Park Chang-ik, the vice-chairman of the Korean Table Tennis Association, was heard over the phone on the 28th. When asked whether it was difficult to compete in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Qatar Open, he answered, "Yes, it is a difficult situation." There is concern that the boxing team's refusal to enter Jordan on May 26 may be repeated on the table tennis team.
Foreigners who have visited Korea, China, and Iran since the 25th have been taking measures to transfer them to quarantine facilities for 14 days. The bad news is that the table tennis team has to start the tournament on the 5th. Has come. The Qatar Open, with high ranking points for the Platinum World Tournament, is very important for national teams ahead of the Tokyo Olympics. In particular, the championship of the mixed doubles and runner-up will be given the right to compete in the Olympics.
The Qatar Table Tennis Association is consistently lukewarm about the entry of Korean athletes with the outbreak of the Corona 19 virus. The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) is in a position to reduce the penalty for 'no show' in the worst case. Penalties and money are not a problem for the national team. In particular, Kim Taek-soo's men's team, which is aiming to advance to the Tokyo Olympics, is indispensable for the Qatar Open in order to place the top seed in the Olympics.
Kim said, "It's very embarrassing and difficult. If I can't open Qatar, the ranking loss is huge. It's like losing all the points I received last year." "The tournament also has tickets for mixed double Olympics. If any one of the two sets of our mixed suits (Jang Woo-jin, Shin Yu-bin, Lee Sang-soo, Choi Hyo-ju) goes to the finals, they will automatically enter the Olympics." "If the Qatar Open fails, there will be no international competition until April. There is no sense in the game. It is not clear what will happen to the April Asia Championships in Thailand, where the Asian continental tickets are held." "China, Japan, Germany and other competitors all go out to win points, but if we can't win, we'll be seeding 4 times. The likelihood is high. "
The men's and women's table tennis team went to Taeseong Hospital, Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk on the 26th, referring to the boxing team's entry into Jordan, and all the players and staff completed the 'Corona 19' test. Kim added, "I have received all the Corona 19 negative English certificates as proof to prove that if I am restricted from entering Qatar. Many of my sports, including badminton, judo and fencing, have completed corona tests." Park Chang-ik, the vice-chairman of the Korean Table Tennis Association, said, “You must leave the country in order to compete in Qatar Open. The time is short. We are trying to solve all the channels including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We will do our best to play Qatar open for our players. "
As one of the Olympic dreams, the national team players who have been running for four years are shaking in the 'Corona 19' crisis. The power of an individual or association alone is not enough. It is time for active collaboration and resolution efforts by relevant government departments such as the Ministry of Education and Foreign Affairs. Former reporter [email protected]

Russian Honorary Academician, he claims the Corona epidemic till the end of the year 2020, it is much like the Spain Flu of 1918 to massacre 50 millions.

There is a growing need for the Tokyo Olympics to be postponed for 2021.

Wow, I wonder if the Singaporean, Japanese, Italian and Hong Kong athletes will be subjected to the same restrictions, or more rigorous tests upon touchdown. I mean, these are countries at the top of the chart.

In another news, Harimoto said something rather interesting in an interview with Fuji TV after winning the Hungarian Open.

To prevent recurrence of right elbow injury, Liu Shiwen withdraws from Qatar Open
      March 01, 2020 17:54 Sina Sports

The ITTF official website shows that Liu Shiwen has withdrawn from the upcoming Qatar Open. It is understood that the reason was: during the German Open in early February, Liu Shiwen's right elbow injury recurred. After she followed the team to Qatar, through the contact of Khalil, the Vice President of ITTF and the Chairman of Qatar Table Tennis Association, CNT found the most authoritative hospital and sports medicine expert for Liu Shiwen in Doha for inspection. Liu Shiwen's right elbow received a cortisone shot.

After recent adjustments and adaptive training, Liu Shiwen is gradually recovering to the best state. The head coach of the Chinese women’s table tennis team Li Sun explained that in response to Liu Shiwen’s injury, Qatar medical experts and CNT foreign rehabilitation team and medical team jointly studied a course of rehabilitation training plan. From the perspective of ensuring Olympic preparations and protecting athletes, it is recommended that Liu Shiwen recover for a period of time in case there was another danger of injury recurrence. That's not good news, as long as it benefits the XD team I suppose not a bad thing, if not right to play then probably good thing in rehab

This ITTF season looks like will turn out to be a potential disaster, I'm big soccer fan too and Champions league lookinh potentially in doubt too same as Euro 2020

Well, only two explanations then, apart from injury prevention reasons. Either she is really not playing Singles or CNT has decided that it doesn't matter if they are drawn into the same half, whoever can beat anyone at any stage deserves to win.
