Hi all i recently used learn about yin pai from my coach and nothing to do with yt

What is yin pai?

In basic terms, it's the preparation for your next stroke.

Including, recovery from previous stroke, realigning your centre of gravity, getting down low, movement to the correct position for next shot, drawing the racket back etc.

Basically it's the fancy term (well i guess not that fancy, it's literally just reverse/backward paddle in chinese) all the prep work so that you are in good position to hit your next shot.

As to the question: multiball would be your best bet, first repeating one stroke, in 1 position. Then 1 stroke in multiple positions, then mix of different strokes from different positions.

If you get to the point where you feel like you are always in position to play an 'optimal stroke' from an optimal position, eg you are not stretching for the ball, or jammed into the body. You feel well grounded during the stroke and can comfortably throw your weight into the stroke correctly stroke after stroke with a fairly consistent bat trajectory to reduce errors. That's pretty much what you are going for.

Yes, this is the only thing that separates China from for example Sweden getting 5 WTTC winners in a row.

It's essentially about recovery and preparation. It's an ancient mystical Chinese secret the Europeans have not yet figured out.

It is entertaining to hear mystical sounding asian terms for simple concepts like reset. :)

And of course, since this is an eastern secret nobody in the west knows of it in spite of the fact that, every coach I ever worked with always talked about the reset and preparation for the next stroke as being part of the stroke and part of the process; and a fast reset makes everything else go much better.

That, ideally, you are reset and in a neutral position by the time your ball is landing on the opponent's side so you can watch his contact and move to where you see his contact is directing the ball.

So, work on your yin pai young padwan and you will master the secrets of seeing where the ball is going before it goes there. :)

And that is true. When you practice being set to watch the angle of the racket and the contact, and the body positioning of the stroke, you see where the ball will go even before it fully leaves the racket. But if you start moving before the contact is initiated, the opponent can change directions as they see you break in one direction or the other. So, part of the art is to respond rather than to react. By the time the ball is 1/5 of the way from racket to the net you should be able to tell exactly where it is going and be fairly clear about what spin is on the ball and should still have plenty of time to get there if you have reset properly.

But the person who said that multiball is a way of training this is exactly correct. Part of why is, with multiball, the feed speed can be faster than would be possible in an actual rally. And a good multiball feeder can slowly increase the speed as you adjust so that, you get to very short intervals between balls which forces you to reset faster and faster.

Then when you play a rally at the speed of players your level, everything feels as if it has been slowed down.

Maybe I read to much into this, but to me yin pai is about more than just reset. The best way I could describe it is, have you seen this in video games or movies about jet fighters / air combat, when the dashboard system is sharpening its focus on the moving object (with multiple squares aligning or whatever) before locking in the target and actually launching the rocket (that obviously'd be you making the shot)? That split second when, when all is right, time sort of slows down and you feel the adrenaline rushing and every muscle getting ready for the explosion, all of your senses in alert and yet, calmness - which makes this sport so addictive?

yin pai引拍 is not reset还原. It means guide the racket. It is the action before you hit the ball and usually you guide the racket AWAY from the ball and then you make the stroke towards the ball. During rallies, it is after you reset your body and before the next stroke.
It may not be a good idea screaming yin pai when you play. Because it sounds almost the same as silver medal 银牌。

Some examples, ML, DN, TB’s ITTF inside my mind
At 31sec, ML guided the racket towards his body. The translation is “racket close to chest”, but what he said is “xiang hou yin pai” meaning guide the racket backwards.
At 27sec, DN made a tomahawk serve. When she took the racket up and behind the shoulder, that's yin pai. At 53s, she guided the racket backwards towards her body, that's yin pai.
At 41s, TB guided the racket to his knee before he made the first FH stroke. At 51, he guided the racket to his thigh before the second FH stroke.

What is yin pai?

銀派 or Silver Pi. The theory is that the imaginative circumference of your swing path should equal the value of pi when divided by your swing diameter. Once you achieve that, it'll produce the miraculous effect of silver bullet for your stroke.

Wearing jewelry made of silver with the symbol and ideally the value is said to help in the process of attaining pi. The more decimals, the closer you get.

It seems like some of you can read some accent or more of chinese. Are there more words like this that you know off? Interesting to know What the chinese focus on.

I have understand that the focus very very very much more on footwork and us europeans.

You know, on that note, this is a fantastic way to take advantage of the new rubber colour rules and market to the EJ.

With the new silver rubber, you too can unlock the power of the silver bat 銀拍, distilling the spirit of Yin Pai to be wielded as an ultimate weapon!

Who needs hours of training when you can be bestowed the gift of perfect positioning by our new $300 rubber!
