Lol...dark knight...dont get that at all. And what queen of hearts got to do with playing characteristic. I wouldnt mind if he calls them out with their cnt nicknames. That way we atleast learn something

I was replying in the other topic about the nick names because I thought he WAS using the Chinese nick names.
But then again, you say cnt, not Chinese or Chinese media (I mean, I get that it's unlikely that the cnt would call them these names haha)
What are their cnt nicknames if I may ask? I'm curious

the National Junior Champion Kyoka IDESAWA knocks out veteran SHAN Xiaona !
IIRC she's playing a very unusual game with LP on the BH side, and she's not a chopper but blocks and pushes with it !

how far can she go with that unusual setup ?

Sora MATSUSHIMA was knocked out in his first match alas, but I think we will see more and more of him

Sora MATSUSHIMA was knocked out in his first match alas, but I think we will see more and more of him

I watched most of the recording of the match between him and Cho Deaseong. It's insane how well he plays from a technical perspective.
His development will likely be similarly mindblowing as was/is Harimoto's, as his body develops. Right now he is just often missing half a meter of reach.

Also, while I personally have nothing against Harimoto's screams, I am glad to see that Sora is less vocal, haha!

Yan An kicked out Wang Chuqin.
While not much of an upset, it still surprised me.

Yan An and Fang Bo are those guys who sometimes forget how to play and then remember when to play when they really should forget.

Same goes for Wang Chuqin, he's very uneven.

At 19 you are supposed to be uneven. If you aren't you are especially mature. When you are a former top tier CNT member with fluctuating results that are confusing, that is a different story. But you are right, maybe the result says more about WCQ than YA.

What is Ma Long's nickname per the Chinese media, dragon or dictator ? Or did Adam Bobrow give Ma the dictator nickname ?

1) 龙队 – "Captain Long/Dragon" which as everyone knows is because his first name means dragon in Chinese
2) 全满贯 – Full Slammer which ranks above even Grand Slammers. Basically, players of this epithet is said to have won every Singles event there is out there beyond the holy trinity (WTTC, Olympics, World Cup) such as the World Tour Grand Finals, Asian/Regional Games, Chinese/Other National Games, Asian/Regional Championships etc. There is also a lesser-known 'Gold Slammer 金满贯' which is given to players who have achieved gold in all possible events (Singles, Doubles, Team) within a single major tournament (do not have to be in the same year). For instance, LSW qualifies for this title as she has won gold for Women's Singles, Women's Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Team throughout her years of WTTC participation.
3) 世乒赛“三连冠” – Literally "3x Back-to-back WTTC Gold Medallist".
4) 地表最强 – "Strongest on Planet Earth"
5) 六边形战士 – "All-Rounded Warrior" although the literal translation should read as "Hexagonally-rounded Warrior" and this term actually comes from the Japanese media in 2016/2017. Back then, the Japanese were ranking players according to six different criteria (hence the 'hexagon') – power/strength, speed, techniques, service, defence and experience – and ML was touted to have scored 5/5 for all aspects.

I'm sure there are better vocabulary out there to translate the above though XD

Women Singles Preliminary R2

USA Lily Zhang 4-0 Natalia Bajor Poland

Lily was wearing a Butterfly Shirt, not sure why since she is now sponsored by Joola.

Maybe she regrets her choice of joining Team Joola, maybe she wants to still use Dignics and Tenergy "The best rubbers on Earth".

Notes - Day 1:
- It was a good day for CNT: 8 out of 9 men and all 8 women are through to the final qualification round. Only loss was Wang Chuqin against Yan An. We will have a few China vs China matches tomorrow (Yan An vs Xu Yingbin, Xu Chenhao vs Zhao Zihao and Wu Yang vs Wang Yidi), but we might still have 6 male and 7 female CNT players qualified for the main draw.
- Not the best day for JNT though as several of their profiles were knocked out: Jin Ueda, Maharu Yoshimura, Masataka Morizono,
Kenta Matsudaira, Miyu Kato and Honoka Hashimoto.
- Compared to the recent tournaments in China and Hong Kong not many European players are attending this event. Also only 5 male and 2 female European players made it to the final preliminary round (32 players).
