OMG Xu Xin made it again!! When was the last time Xu Xin beat Ma Long? 2015 I guess?

20 vs 9, still long way to go...

Ma Long couldn't push Xu Xin's serves short. That made the match a joke. Not sure whether to celebrate the victory or blame the table.

Ok, good observation, Xu Xin won a lot of points like this with third ball kill. If true, then Xu Xin obviously exploited the table conditions better. Question to ITTF is, how much did this table surface deviate from a "standard table surface" requirement, if there is such a thing is "standard surface"?

Celebrate and analyze. Did table bounce/slip not affect XX’s receives? Were there no tactical changes available to mitigate or lessen the effects of the loss of the short push?

It's XX's personal table, you didn't know?

Congratulation XX for retaking the number 1 spot and winning the crowns in both Japan and Korea Open. Never thought it is not Ma Lin or Wang Hao but Chen Qi to bring the best out of him in such a short period of time. Suddenly the expensive Blue Tag Dynasty becomes a worthy buy.

I'm a little confused about DN's tactics here. She played a carefully-curated control game against SYS during the SF which ultimately got her the victory. But here she's very willing to engage in strong rallies with CM even though she clearly cannot match the latter's shot quality. So... what's she trying to achieve?

CM reigns.

The first 3 games were an utterly one-sided victory but not unexpected. OTOH, SYS's loss to DN exposed her lack of experience, namely her inability to adapt to the different styles. She enjoys fast and furious rallies like against LSW, CM and WMY and that's where we see her at her finest but when such play are absent, she either takes a long time to change accordingly or not at all. Think she just shot herself in the foot while augmenting DN's chances to go to Tokyo 2020.

Xu xin is not much younger than Ma Long, however he does not seem much slower than he used to be. Xu xin also relies more on power compared to speed, which could also be a factor.

I believe Ma Long's body has had to cope with much more intense training and he can't go all out in every single tournament, which is why he is trying out new methods to be even more efficient.

I hope Xu Xin can hold this form till Tokyo.
