T2 is back and this year it’s the bigger than ever. The world’s very best players will take to the stage this time round, its going to be explosive with new rules, formats and lots more! The top 16 men and women from the ITTF World Tour rankings have qualified for this event. There are 3 events with the first one kicking off next week in Malaysia from the 18th-21st July. ITTF World Ranking points are at stake as players battle their way to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic qualification.

LIVE STREAMING - Quarter Finals

The rules are different at T2 Diamond, players will compete against the clock instead of just against each other. If nobody has won within the first 24 minutes, the match enters the FAST 5. All games in the FAST 5 Zone are played to 5 points rather than 11.

Lets get this topic started!

What happens if a player is 3-1 up in sets and then the 24 minutes has ended, the match goes into the fast 5? It's not very fair for the player leading 3-1 in sets if then the match is decided on first player to 5 points. Is this right?

That is the strategy I would use vs a CNT member, stall the match until the 24 minutes has passed.

Going from what little I've seen from the last T2, only games are to 5. You still have to win enough of these games to 5 to win a whole match.

Kinda like the expedite rule that kicks in after 10 minutes of play for a game, which remains active until the end of the match.

Games
  1. Best of 7 games; Match ends when one player wins 4 games.
  2. All games that commence before the 24th minute of play will be played to 11 points(no 2-pointdifference).
  3. If, at the 24th minute of play, neither player has won 4 games, then the Match enters a “play-off game”
    a. “The play-off” game is played to 5 points (no 2-point difference).
    a) All remaining games that commence after the 24th minute of play are played as play-off games.

I could try to stall, but I somehow doubt that any CNT member will let me stall anything. 24 minutes is a long time to stall, if everything you do gets killed or spent at the 2nd ball already.

Question to the experts on the second Diamond ....

Points for the second Diamond will be charged separately from those already received and recorded in the first Diamond?
Will the results of Bulgaria and the Czech Republic be included for the second Diamond?

What's the advantage of a "playoff" vs a regular best 4 of 7?

Upsets are more likely to happen. A run of points early on and you're doomed. This encourages high-risk play. A Korean player who steps around like that-mad-Korean-hammering-those-W968s can be very dangerous. All he needs is 5 points.

Cut off date for 2nd T2 is July 15.
Points for the 2nd T2 will be added to those from the first one.
