So why don't ITF change the rules and make tennis shorter so they can get more air time?
If ITTF took over ITF, they will change everything lol

They actually did, using tiebreaks in deciding sets to replace the in principe inlimited gameplay until a two game difference is reached.

I must first start with I know nothing about Tennis (other than watching a bit of the finals here and there)
I actually did a quick wiki on tie breaks.
So tennis is a 150 year old sport and the tiebreak first came up in the 1950s and it failed
then introduced again in the 70s then 80s.

I wonder other than tiebreak, what other major changes did ITF do to Tennis?

TT is changing every 5 years and i'm only 30 odd years old, Ive seen a totally different ball game now from when I first learnt the sport

The tennis courts were changed to be slower. Less aces and serve and volley dominance, more longer rallies.

And not too long ago we didn't have multi ball.

the many balls/multi ball was due to air time problems that the Super league in China was facing due to drop in viewership.
I would say the rise of other sports in China is a bigger problem than the problems of Table Tennis
We can say since the 70s/80s, Table tennis had no competition in China, and the past decade or two, has changed all this.

I still remember big brands like VW wants a piece of Chinese market, so they heavily involved with TT a decade or two ago

I wonder if Seamaster will do the same in say the USA market?

So they wanted to shorten the match and then also extend the match??

Sounds like ITTF
make the match longer, then oh no, the match is too long, lets shorten it.

I still feel ITF (these 2 changes so far) are amateur in rule changes compared to ITTf

That narrow victory Kato had over Ito was really bad news for the in-form ZYL. She really could show strenght and regain confidence if she came out on top against Ito, redemption by revenge. Sadly, that opportunity did not come.

And no, I do not suggest Ito intentionally dropped that match to take that redemption option away from ZYL.

I think that's a bit unfair.

They wanted to lengthen the rallies.

But now want to shorten the length of the overall match (eg by fewer points played).

The unfortunate side effect of the latter is that there is now more upsets.

I think both changes make sense in context of making the sport more TV friendly.

Watching a full match of elite athletes not being able to return serve some 30% of the time is maybe not the most exciting thing for the casual watcher. I can understand the desire for longer rallies, requiring more athleticism more frequenty.

And while i would prefer longer matches with fewer upsets, that's not what the popularity of the sport warrants at the moment, so I can understand the tradeoff for higher variance too.

Same shit here. Not even willing to give it time to pan out before jumping the gun.
Howw much time they need?
China super league using similar rules several years already. The same in Russia. And nobody likes them.

You're the one who asked if there's any flaw in your argument and I pointed it out.
You have not pointed anything meaningful.
You are just trying to silence all those whose point of view does not suit you.

Go knock yourself out.
I am not a specialist in English insults and curses, so think for yourself where to go. I hope you can handle it.

Fan was completely outclassed in the last 10 points. Doesn't brood well for him ("commercial event" or not), especially after his coach has been changed to Qin Zhijian following the mass criticisms towards Wang Hao for leading him 'astray'.

Wow, just wow. Amazing performance by LJY. Keeping a bit with the tennis comparisons, Bjorn Borg had ice in his veins. LYJ is an iceberg. Zero outward emotions/reactions. Congrats to the kid.

Lmao, you guys really it's just too funny :'D Some people seem to have a gift to make a fool of themselves.

How can a decently smart person bury a player like FZD so fast just because he has a bad period? And everyone agreeing with each other on this matter, this is maybe the most funny (and worrying) part.
Anyway Fan's performance today will (hopefully) definitely shut some mouths.

Nobody is burying FZD. It is his results that is doing it to him. I believe any smart person knows what fate CNT players go through once they start losing consistently to foreigners.
