Older Blades In A New Era

So I’ve been playing with a reproduction of Waldner’s Banda blade from the 90’s or so and just want to hear your thoughts on how blades that were designed before the speed glue ban, ball change, and game shortening have held up in this new era of TT. I don’t just mean old blades, but also new blades manufactured off old designs like The TB ALC etc. Thanks!

It’s better to change them for new ones, because it’s not wine - over time it’s better not to become.

Wood does tend to age well, and newer blades produced after old models are still often the standard. TB ALC is a fine example of an older design being very popular and effective at the top levels.

I'm at a point where I use vintage blades almost exclusively. Not many people make 100g+ blades like they did back in the 70s and 80s. A 110g basswood blade is faster than Viscaria and maintains the crisp woody crack on smashing. I think mine are holding up just fine in the modern era.
