About a month ago, Tibhar MX-K came on the market. MX-K is a cooperation effort between Nexy and Tibhar. What Nexy Korea Prez Moon, Ui Bae did was ask Tibhar to make a rubber using their MX series sponge and the Nexy Karis topsheet. (With some modifications I suspect to formulation of rubber compound, but keeping the basic pimple properties the same.) It took several years to hammer it out, but out is on the market.
Nexy Korea did a big write-up on MyTT forum in his Nexy Designer thread, maybe he comes here to TTD to talk about it.
I use MX-K 47 on a Nexy Batos blade (an OFF-ish ALC blade with Limba outers) and have enough opinions about it.
Overall, this is an interesting hybrid of linear on low to medium impacts and explosive busts on full impacts... Control for each of these impacts is something one must feel to better know it. Extremely grippy rubber. Easy to handle incoming spin, make you want to use topspin defense, blocking as a weapon, or a counter attack way more that before.
There isn't a rubber to compare it to, so I won't really try. It acts KINDA like Karis on the low to medium end... think linear - you get what you put in... but the output is higher on the medium end than Karis. You get an explosion of power on well struck balls like you would with MX-P, but you get a lower arc and penetration with a sudden dip late - very troubling. It is also possible to play MX-K with high throw rubber type strokes and get a high arcing ball that bounces suddenly high and towards player, also troubling.
You get control in all the different levels of force impact, yet it offers some new confidence is some other situations one would not expect control from an offensive rubber.
- When not in optimal position faced with a strong incoming topspin, you can bend, modify your stroke to be short, grip it a little looser, and go through the ball - it will eat topspin and send back your own with a different timing.
- When faced with an opening loop, you can loosen grip and impact more solid and soft to send back a very light ball, often opponent expects more topspin on that
- At distance, just go through the ball aggressively and watch it land time and time again, this rubber has help my consistency at distance
- No one really wants to praise a rubber for blocking, as that would make a reviewer look a coward, but MX-K has some serious potential for blocking as an offense or bridge to offense.
- Basically, any change in grip pressure at impact rewards the hitter with a full spectrum of less or more spin, less or more pace... so much easier to control that than the typical dynamic explosive rubbers we ae accustomed to.
- Like a control oriented rubber, it allows you to hit harder and stay safe
