Hurricane 3 neo - some like it for BH some don't - why is this?

Try Battle II Provincial 38 degrees, it's cheap, feels softer, like 37, and it is a very good choice.
I completely agree!
Battle 2 at 38 ° is a great choice for backhand.
The provincial version has a more flexible sponge.
When you use a booster it is fast, with excellent control and high spin.

Battle has lower throw and harder topsheet than h3. Thus not a direct substitute, plays too different. It's like skyline 2, but with harder topsheet.

Yes, Battle 2 has a harder topsheet. Speed and spin are comparable to H3 NEO,
Battle 2 has better block control thanks to a tougher topsheet.
H3 NEO is more demanding for backhand.
I prefer for backhand Master 729 GT degree of 36 °.

I know it is old thread but I like high boosted hurricane 3 neo on bh, the recipe is very secret so I will not say too much, maybe needs more aggressive blade or heavy blade which makes you put Hurricane 3 on forehand just to get more balance
after all it will be very heavy setup so you need more muscles, more power
but good choice is Viscaria because it is direct or very heavy layer alc just to create very high arc shots, like every top level players

what sponge hardness do you use for BH?

I thought you rated H3 a 8.3, and rated Big Dipper a 7.7

I still think your rating is ludicrous (to me, H3 is a 8 and BD is a 8.8), but why are you recommending BD if you rated it lower than H3?

Well. The H3N 37º is much softer. I recall comparing BD 38º to H3N 39º/40º, and compared to them, it's softer and slower. That's why I thought that BD 38º could be a good substitute for H3N 37º.
