It sounds strange, but I would be glad if Ishikawa won today .....
This would guarantee third place for Mima Ito in the January ITTF ranking .....
But in the Ishikawa-Hirano race, Ishikawa still has an advantage in points ...And, apparently, JNT has already made a final decision-Ishikawa will be in the Olympic team .....
Even if (a fantastic assumption, pure theory!) Hayata will win the Top 12, the Empress Cup and Germany Platinum, all the same, Ishikawa and Hirano will be in the Olympic team, the decision has already been made ....

Bobrow is using the term "Mima Punch" wrong. The term is only used for that specific FH shot with little backswing.

Unfortunately, Miu Hirano at the NA tournament missed her chance to rise above Ishikawa .....:(
Now, in the Hirano Grand Final, to step forward, you need to go one lap further than Ishikawa .....

Me sad? Why would I? I have nothing to lose here. It's Japan that should feel sad. I'm merely speaking from the Japanese standpoint of fielding the best possible lineup. It's they that want the gold medal here.

Doesn't matter either way.

Just like when Ito was asked about the CNT lineup for Tokyo 2020. She picked what she thought would be the best possible lineup. People in China thought she was crazy back then.

...If I were a CNT coach, I'd definitely go with SYS for Tokyo 2020, LSW for consistency, and DN for doubles as a lefty. Will do my best not to lose to them.

C'mon. Do you want me to refute you right in the face? I have the article where Ito explains it in detail.

That’s interesting. I thought they just use it for net and edge detection. Didn’t expect they also use it to check if service is legal.

Please correct me if I am wrong. I think the rules only say near vertical but didn’t mention specific angle. So in what angle will they treat it as successful?

And I wonder how many camera angles do they have. If it only takes from the front angle and the player threw the ball backward, can they still measure the verticality correctly?

Looks so cool!

The rule used to specify the angle and then was changed. Yet, in the Handbook for Match Officials, there's a diagram, sort of like a guideline of what's acceptable and what's not.

From what I could see, they have cameras at least 2 in the back and 2 on each side pointing at the players. So, they should be able to measure that, too.
