Hi,

A customer emailed me asking if the Nexy Batos ALC in the lower 80s weight range had had hollow throat or handle pieces... I suspected not but didn't know.

I had an 84 gram pre sweat Batos handy... so I took off a handle piece after 5 minutes of heat gun on low...

Turns out my 84 g Batos had a medium hollow neck.

I filled with hide glue and toothpicks to turn it into 91 g... just the weight I like !!! 94 g with grip tape. Right up my alley.

Will play Thursday and see how this dog barks.

Toothpicks? This is beneath you. I was expecting nails.

A shame to discover a hollow handle on one of your favorites. But I suspect most manufacturers are doing it nowadays.

Hollowing out handle pieces, the neck or both is a modern way manufacturers reduce the weight of the blade to get it into the target lower range of desired weight.

Some customers demand low 80s weight.

Some customers demand head heavier.

Some makers feel that a hollowed neck (and certain gluing ways) makes the pitch in a certain target zone.

I am all for weight balance lower.

Sure, this isn't like the first Beast Mod of the Stiga Allround Evolution 85 to 120s gram conversion (but hey - it had hollow neck AND Handles and I used nails) however, this should do well, weight is good, it is reinforced and I think it is going to work like I want it.

It is my main blade I use for club and tourneys, so that says a lot.

The Batos is basically a very controllable OFF class ALC blade with Limba outers. Feel is good, not rediculous fast, good dwell, no crazy earthquake vibrations. Enough power to finish.

I am very topspin oriented, I value spin production first. I can spin or power loop well with Batos.

My Table Tennis has a thread where Nexy Korea owner talks about his blades. He always does a long spiel on that thread when he releases a new blade.

The thread is called Nexy Designer Thread.

Here is Nexy Korea's international website description with pics...

Down near the bottom, there is a youtube vid of Oscar giving Dan a Batos to tryout a while back before it was on market. This was while Dan visited Korea for the ITTF Grand Finals.

Why Do like it heavier or and less head heavy?
Several reasons.

1) Much easier to whip the bat with more weight in handle, which makes it easier to topspin and do over the table wrist stuff.

2) Feel at impact is improved (my perception)

3) Heavier/More Solid bat holds up against strong incoming shots much more stable. The bat is less likely to move when striking against a strong incoming shot.

Recently, I wrote about a ttd member who saw a ttd video review of an OFF Andro blade and really wanted it, so he got it, but at 78 grams. He obviously did not like the low performance of an OFF blade 12 grams lower than optimal.

That is what happens with a blade in the low end of the weight range. Some customers demand a very low weight of a popular blade, so makes have few options if the do not want to make an entirely new "Light" version of their offensive blades... that would sound weak.

So, they go the route of hollowing out the handle pieces, neck, or both.

Just an hour more and work, then straight to the tt gym.

I think I will slap back on the same rubber I had on it before - Tibhar MX-K 47 and FX-P. (I ran out of FX-S)

That way, I can compare with just the difference of blade mod.

Feel like you would like it more headheavy for the whipping? I like heavier But feel that if is to heavy it is hard to play fast and close to the table.

Head heavy is more difficult to initiate kinetic energy with pivot on wrist.

Take a baseball bat and swing - easy. Add .5 kg weight near end and it feels like you are breaking bones in your wrist to swing. Add that weight right where you grip (like fill the aluminum bat with .5 kg melted lead down low) and swing... SO MUCH EASIER with weight low.

No w that a day has gone by an I hit with Batos/MX-K/FX-S... That bat feels and plays like my 91 gram Batos main bat. Rubber performs like it should for a 2 month old rubber.

I am liking TT blades like they USED to make them... 90-100 grams and SOLID. Call me an old-school trouble maker - no problem.
