Looks like Potential (Shin) just won. Now Choi has to perform a minor miracle assuming Suh can level the match.

Altho to be fair even with Jeon around, what's most likely is that there will be a deciding fifth match unless they replace Suh Hyowon completely. Well, I guess there is chance now for the Lees to appear in the 9th place matches.

Well the real problem now is that they have to deal with the Netherlands (which will at least not have an injured Li Jie), Belarus, Hungary, India, France etc. They are still the favorite, but their inexperience creates question marks where a team with Jeon would have not.

There's still the 2nd stage for South Korea, where the winner will qualify as the 16th team. Will they be up to it?

Yes, and I consider them the favorites, but this team has more question marks than a team with Jeon would have. I can't imagine that they had absolutely no other topspin player who they trusted against defence than to play Suh Hyowon against a team with probably the best female defender in the world as a practice partner.

Just looked it up. This will be their last chance. The winner of 2nd stage will qualify as the 16th team.

No wonder Yoo Namkyu resigned. HTF does he make it work with this team?

Looks like Hungary without Pota are going to beat Portugal. Which puts one more dangerous team in the final elimination for Korea to deal with. This is getting interesting.

Table tennis is illogical. The transitive property doesn't work. I thought if Madarasz could beat Yu and Yu was the team #1 that Madarasz would have no problem with Yu. Assumptions are the...

If Korea has Jeon, they can put Suh on bench and let Jeon play 2 singles. Or they can use the same lineup vs Japan during the Team World Cup that Choi played 2 singles, and put Jeon partner with Shin for the double. It is so much more flexible when they have Jeon.

Now without Jeon, Korea needs to let Suh play 2 singles if they want someone with experience to lead the team. Or else they will need to take a risk for using all the inexperienced players.

South Korea is lucky that Netherlands and Portugal will face off first.

And in the other half of the draw. Nice catch!

They had better get no other major upsets. If a Romania or a Hong Kong fell into the 9th place event, it would cause major issues. India is tough enough and Ukraine is no joke either.

Yeah because those old Portugese ladies know how to play choppers and block loopers. South Korea had better figure out whether its bench players are its best players like the trials said.

The problem with internal trials is that some players have gotten really good at beating their own teammates but when it comes to new opponents when they play internationally, they don't know what to do. The players that won the trials this time are likely not the most reliable ones. They would've been fine as long as Shin and Jeon play (problem is, Jeon can't)

For some reason, everyone knows this except the coach who designed the selection process and took risks with the selection process instead of waiting for a new Olympic cycle to implement the changes.
