Based on their last encounters, I would hope to see CIC vs Ito (3-4 WTGF 2019) rather than Senpai vs Ito (1-4 T2 SG) for a more hotly contested WS finals. Gomenasai senpai!

On a separate note, I wonder if JTTA would consider moulding Hirano into a Doubles specialist, particularly now that her Singles seems to be quite stagnant. Hayata + Hirano and Uda Yukiya + Hirano both seem promising for 2024?

There is no certainty that Hirano will generally be part of the team at Olympus 2024 ...
Hayata - it’s not clear ... Refusal from Qatar Open, silence on his accounts in the FB, Twitter, Instagram ...

Harimoto would've given that game up if that were to happen last year. Instead, he tried to find a way out when his BH didn't work, by focusing on placement with his FH. Yup, FH! He used to force his FH, but this time he played soft and that messed up Dima's flow.

That was an impressive match from Harimoto. An impressive pair of matches if you count the one vs Duda as well. The Germans usually have Rosskopf telling them how to play Harimoto but it seems Harimoto's game (vastly more improved footwork and forehand) has sent the back to the drawing board. Not sure it is good enough for CNT yet but very impressive.

This is the first tournament maybe ever where the women's semifinals have plotlines that intrigue me as much as the men's semifinals. How will Han Ying's defense do against the Itermimator? And Kasumi and Cheng playing for ranking and Olympic seeding to avoid the Chinese. The latter given the form of both players is a big deal and as the first match, it could portend a huge trend.

Uda wins against Pitchford, so there is an opportunity for a Harimoto revenge in the final. Usually he struggles hard against these similar aged young players so we will see if Harimoto can do better this time.

Wow, senpai came back after trailing 2-8.

CIC losing game 1 after such a huge lead reminds me of CM's match against Ito, from 10-1 to 10-12.

Edit: Every time I have praise for senpai, I end up having to tweak my opinion minutes later.

What a pain to watch. After all these years, my idol still has so much trouble playing(not even beating) FTW and CIC, both of whom have much poorer access to coaching and training.

How dare you, senpai is clearly injured. That grimace on her face and pinching of her arm ~
