South Korea used the same lineup against Japan at the TWC 2019, taking the doubles with JJH/SYB and using CHJ to catch Ito. Hirano played Goku and beat the shit out of JJH. Gave Japan a good scare.

Shin Yubin is a gem and some day will be S Korea's top player. She will be great in Paris.

I'm glad they picked Shin Yubin ahead of Suh Hyowon, clearly the Korean team understand that faith has its limitations and know when it's time to move on. Shin Yubin clear example picking potential over experience.

Heaps of LSW fans complained when she was left out of singles competition but now same fans that have concluded her career is finished for the national team. Chinese ladies nice position for next 2 Olympics with dominant players in the spot light.

Singapore women the next victim of this knockout format. Previous victims were North Korea and I believe Netherlands that could have brought a challenge to the other teams.

    Boll/Franziska winning doubles? That's new.
    LYJ 7:2 DO, 7:7, 9:7, 9:9, 10:9, 10:12
    9:10, 11:10, 11:11, 12:11, 12:12, 14:12
    8:6, 8:7, 11:7
    3:0, 3:4, 4:4, 5:4, 5:5, 7:5, 7:8, 8:8, 8:9, 9:9, 9:10, 10:10, 11:10, 11:12, 12:12, 12:14
LYJ handled G4 poorly, especially on his own serves. Wanted to end the point quickly when he had the lead 2 times. Ended up wasting them.
    1:0, 1:1, 2:1, 2:3, 3:3, 3:4, 4:4, 4:6, 7:6, 7:7, 11:7
LYJ kept his composure in the middlegame of G5.

LYJ: Tokyo 2020 MS bronze medalist, huh? Can't keep up with my speed AT ALL.

    OLYMPIC COMMISSION MEETING

MINUTES Of the Olympic Commission Meeting of the International Table Tennis Federation, held
on 8th December 2008 at the Husa Princesa Hotel, Madrid, Spain at 09:00.

    ...

    5. Beijing 2008/London 2012 (Discussion only)
    5.1 Post-Games Report
    M. Jordi Serra briefly explained that the Post Games Report from the IOC
had been completed after consultation of key persons involved in the Games.
Mr. Yang Shuan explained that the report was not about the Beijing Games
but the future Games and that it was important to clearly think about how to
present our sport at the highest level in London. Mr. Neil Harwood said that
the Paralympic Games had been staged excellently and that the Olympic
Commission should now become the body to also monitor the Paralympics
and ensure that the Paralympics are always staged at the same high level as
    the Olympics.

    5.2 Survey
    M. Jordi Serra explained that a survey was done with the help of a
programme downloaded freely from the Internet, which was easy to use
regarding the playing system at the Olympic Games. The survey was sent to
all the National Associations, officials and players and a total of 68 answers
had been received. A summary of the answers was explained and several
recommendations highlighted and discussed. The validity of the survey was
questioned by Mr. Stefano Bosi who said that it was important to know
exactly who answered the questionnaire. Mr. Yang Shuan said that it was
also very important to seriously consider the recommendations and
suggestions from the media and the IOC. It was decided that the survey
would be extended to the media.

5.3 Proposals received and Recommendations for London 2012
5.3.1. Hong Kong Table Tennis Association
The proposal from the Hong Kong Table Tennis Association, to add
mixed doubles and to provide 2 bronze medals was discussed at
length. On proposal from Mr. Yang Shuan, it was decided that a
working group would be formed by the EC in order to work on the
possibility of adding mixed doubles and allocating two bronze
medals in 2016. Item referred to the Executive Committee meeting
for the creation of a working group.

5.3.2. French Table Tennis Federation (Gadal/Birocheau)
The proposal made by the French Association regarding the
Qualification system for the 2012 Games was discussed. Item to be
further studied by the working group.

    5.3.3. From the Survey
Recommendations from the survey to be studied by the working
    group.

5.4 List of decisions to be made in Yokohama
To be decided after the deliberations of the working group.
    Olympics Commission
Minutes Of the Olympic Commission of the International Table Tennis Federation, held on 28th
April 2009 at the Shin Yokohama Prince Hotel, Yokohama, Japan at 09h00.

    ...

    5. London 2012
    5.1 Olympic Working Group report
The report and recommendations presented by the Olympic Working
Group to the Olympics Commission were discussed at length. The proposal
for awarding bronze medals was dismissed and the proposal to include the
mixed doubles event to the 2016 Olympic Games shall be further studied
by the group, and a proposal shall be made to the IOC Executive Board in
2013. Several changes to the qualification system were analysed and the
    following decisions taken:

    For singles:
    • To reduce to 14 (from 22) the quota of places allocated for teams
and to increase the number of players directly qualified from the
world ranking from 20 to 28.
    • Direct qualifications would be taken from the world ranking issued
immediately after the 2011 World Championships.
    • To change the current system for the world qualification
tournament. All players to compete from the first stage.

    For teams:
    • To qualify a maximum of 16 teams with one place reserved for the
host and one for each Continent. All NOCs that qualify with 3
players before the Final World Qualification would be qualified for
    the team event directly.
    • After the World Qualification, the teams with 3 players qualified
would have one place in the team events. If the quota of 16 teams
were exceeded, the ranking of the 2012 World Team
Championships would decide the final 16 places to be qualified.
    • If there were some places remaining to allocate, the teams with 3
players qualified after the Final World Qualification Tournament
would be qualified following the Ranking of the 2012 World Team
Championships. Then the teams with 2 players qualified would be
considered in the same way until the quota is filled.

    Games Competition System
    • It was decided that the singles events would be played before the
    team events.
    • It was decided that the team events would be played using a direct
knockout system and the doubles would be one of the first 3
    matches.

It was agreed that this working group would continue to follow-up on Olympic
issues, in particular it would strive to find ways to improve the qualification
system for teams for the 2016 Games.

5.2 Technical Delegates for Olympics and Paralympics
It was proposed and agreed that the Chairman of the Technical Committee
and the Competition Manager of the previous Games would be appointed
Technical Delegates for the London 2012 Olympics and Mr. Nico Verspeelt
was appointed as a Technical Delegate for the 2012 Paralympics.

i think they will make Harimoto play 2 singles + doubles with Niwa / Mizutani this time.and thats how they win with these 3 matches.i don't give any chance to Niwa in singles against any of them, and Mizutani might have a small chance against Boll but i don't see him having any chance against Dima who is playing great so far.Harimoto v Dima is 50/50 but I think this time Harimoto will win, and I think Boll is a good matchup for him while Boll doesn't seem at this best anyway.

I rate Japan higher than Chinese Taipei & Chinese Taipei with better fortune could have pulled it off. Lin Yun-ju has 2 weak team mates, both performed bad in singles, granted against Boll & Ovtcharov

Japan mens might have a chance if can win doubles and find few wins in singles

The scoring machine is slightly different from the ITTF-version, with no +/- on the scoring. (You press the score to increase it, and then there is an "undo". But going to 3-0 in matches (!) after first game in the frist match should be impossible, as it calculates points first, then games, then matches. Some malfunction probably.

I never said that. Boll Ovtcharov elite players, Franziska solid third.

I rate Niwa and Mizutani higher than Chuang Chih-yuan and Chen Chen-an that's why 3 wins is possible for team Japan. Those 2 were hopeless today while Koki had good day today
