Career-threatening injuries. Wrist for FB and ankle for YA. But they aren't Boll, who has all the time in the world to recover.

I don't mind seeing them play in Europe where their level should be more then enough to compete. They have devoted their life so far to table tennis might as well play as much as they can before retiring and if they can make money in Europe no shame to try there.

If the world's top 8 teams were added to this mock olympics, I wonder how far they would have made it.
On the women's side, Japan might not even be guaranteed to make the top 4.

I think you're going a bit too far. I think they're better than both semi-finalists.
I think Mima is 50/50 against WYD. Even Kasumi and Miu have a chance against her. And the odds better against the others. doubles i think Japan better as well.``

even against Team 2 I think Japan would have had its chances.

Yea I don't doubt it. I think it's more of a toss-up. Against any other world team Japan is almost guaranteed to win. But their odds against the semifinalists in CNT Olympics are less IMO.

I am a little disappointed by the team event though. It feels like they are setting up Team 1 to win by forcing Team 2 to stick to SMY as first singles (which frankly is quite an insult to Ito's game) and the lack of synergy between members of the other teams (especially for doubles) are quite showing. Ishikawa/Hirano did beat DN/SYS when the latter paired together for the first time though so... you never know.

Yes agree. Haven’t seen Xu Xin playing any single in Team competition indicates that Team 1 is quite over and above others (except team 2)
