Jeon Ji-hee (28, POSCO Energy), the signboard of the Korean women's table tennis team, is preparing to participate in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Women's World Cup, which is approaching in November.

On the 16th, coach Kim Hyung-seok of his team, POSCO ENERGY, said, “Because of the problem of quarantine caused by Corona 19, Jeon Ji-hee must enter Shanghai, China within three days, including October 20, 21, and 22, but China Eastern Airlines departing from Korea. There are only 23 days of flight. If we do not enter within these three days, it is difficult to participate in the competition, so we are seeking cooperation with ITTF.”

The ITTF Women's World Cup will be held in Weihai, Shandong Province, China for three days from November 8 to 10, with the world's top 20 women's singles participating. Jeon Ji-hee, the only Korean player in the world rankings, got the right to participate. The ITTF and host China decided to hold the competition 12 days later after quarantining the athletes from each country for only three days before the competition and allowing them to practice at a designated training ground if there is no problem in order to enforce the competition even in the Corona 19 pandemic, Kim said.

Earlier this month, the ITTF announced that it will host four international competitions in China in November, including the Men's and Women's World Cup, postponed by Corona 19, under the name of “Restart” (new start). Starting with the Women's World Cup, the Men's World Cup will be held in Weihai from November 13th to 15th. Also, the ITTF Finals will be held in Weihai from November 19th to 22nd. The 1st WTT (World Table Tennis Federation) tournament will be held in Macau from November 25th to 29th. Because of Corona 19, all facilities, such as stadiums, accommodations, and restaurants, are prepared in specific places, and players compete in competitions in a completely isolated environment.

In Korea, in the case of men, Jung Young-sik (28, Armed Forces Sports Corps), the 14th place in the world, and Jang Woo-jin (25, Mirae Asset Daewoo), ranked 18 in the world will participate in the World Cup. Seo Hyo-won (33, Korea Horse Association), the 23rd place in the world, only participates in the Macau WTT. Chung Young-sik and Jang Woo-jin must enter Shanghai, China on October 27th and 28th to compete. The Korea Table Tennis Association is in a situation where Jeon Ji-hee asked for cooperation from the ITTF to allow him to join the male players at this time.
