“China should be the best possible place for a return to world table tennis,” said the Sports Institute coach. “We will not hesitate to send our players there where the pandemic seems to be under control while Europe may still be a bit risky. If the Chinese authorities give the green light, I am sure they will provide a safe environment for the players and we shouldn’t worry too much.

      ...

Table tennis powerhouse China will spearhead the field for both tournaments, with the entry of reigning men’s world champion Ma Long and women’s world champion Liu Shiwen confirmed. Each event features the world’s top 20 players, with the two Hong Kong players invited in a list of top Asian Cup players according to world rankings.

Is that why ML (and FZD) was missing from the team event earlier this week?

CM and SYS were present though, so I guess we will see ZYL at the WWC?

after getting an invitation to compete at the World Cup, which will be held in China with the venue yet to be announced.
Rumours seem to suggest Weihai in Shandong, possibly at the newly-launched Olympics Centre?

Rumours has it that there will be other events held in November, namely a WTT promotional tournament between 25th to 29th in Macau... Not sure who's gonna participate though.

Le Floc’h, the former chief commercial officer at Fifa and marketing director at Uefa continued: “We don’t have all the baggage of the old-style packages so we can start fresh and be agile, addressing the requests of the potential partners. The drawback is that this is a new product and people like to see it. We’ll try to have a test event in Macau in October/November to be able to show the world what it looks like.”

Both Sharath and Sathiyan have contacted the game’s governing body seeking more clarity on the reserves list. "I have emailed the ITTF about the reserves list for the World Cup as they are yet to announce it which is very unprofessional of them. But I feel they are sorting a few internal matters before they will get back to us," Sharath told TOI.

It is learnt that ITTF wants all players to reach Weihai by October 20 and enter into a bio-bubble --- at least three weeks ahead of the World Cup scheduled from November 13 to 15. This event will be followed by the ITTF finals (November 19-22) which will also be played in Weihai.

With India and China having a standoff at the moment, it remains to be seen if Sharath and Sathiyan get their visas on time for the event. Also, with no flight services from India to China currently, the two will have to explore other routes in order to make the event. "I don’t know how we will get there and the picture will become clearer only in the coming days," said Sharath.

What are the chances of Franziska participating should his German compatriots withdraw? Hmm. Karlsson, Gauzy and Freitas should be playing in the German League too right. Let's work towards making World Cup Asian Cup ~

Why are spots reserved for Hirano Miu and Sato Hitomi? Kind of goes against the idea that World Cup spots are given to players instead of associations.

Wells, unfortunately for them. Seems like Harimoto, Ito, Niwa and Ishikawa are all participating so, no room for a third spot.

無限接近0? ITTF World Series all the way!

      https://www.mytischtennis.de/public/...und-ovtcharov/
Not all top players could understand the decision of the ITTF to move the World Cup for women and men and the Grand Finals to China. In addition to Timo Boll, Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Patrick Franziska also joined the expressions of displeasure in the protest letter. ITTF President Thomas Weikert can understand the excitement of the professionals and hopes to bring the topic back on the agenda.

Politics shouldn't be topic in Table Tennis, bit hard given the current climax with Covid.

Originally I said move on, I'm sure other players would be more than happy to get opportunity however if it's a broader issue and more players showing discontent then the issue is much bigger and ITTF might need find long term solutions, find a bubble all parties happy to travel to an resume play safely. Easier said than Done.

Pitchford is all systems go. Nani? His name is nowhere on the invitation or reserve list of the Men's Word Cup.

      https://tabletennisengland.co.uk/new...-ittf-restart/
It will be his first appearance at the ITTF Finals and his second at the Men’s World Cup – he had a wildcard spot when England hosted the event in Liverpool in 2012. And Liam feels his performances before lockdown, not least reaching the final of the Qatar Open, merited inclusion at the showpiece tournaments.

      Important Notice (September 2020)

With the restart of international Table Tennis activity, the rankings are scheduled to be published again after the first events take place. Updated detailed calendar can be found here.

In order to protect players from the lack of events, the regulation changes described here have been approved, resulting in the updated 2020 ITTF World Ranking Regulation.
      https://www.ittf.com/wp-content/uplo...s_20200915.pdf
      Changes on 15th September 2020
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the ITTF World Ranking was frozen as of April 2020. After several months of inactivity, the international activity is due to be restarted in November 2020. In order to protect the ranking points which were scheduled to expire from May 2020, the validity of the regular events still counting for the April 2020 ranking has been exceptionally extended to become 24 months in total. Events valid until the next edition are not included in this clause, as they will be replaced by the new edition if it is celebrated.

As an example, an event which should have expired in August 2020 will now expire in August 2021. On the other hand, the 2020 Men’s and Women’s World Cups will replace the 2019 editions.

Finally, the new ITTF Finals event has been included in the list of events automatically included in the ranking and counting as a regular event for the participating players. The event is valid for 12 months, it is not replacing the 2019 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals and shall count for the players ranking if it is in their best eight results.
      https://www.ittf.com/wp-content/uplo...0_20200915.pdf
      3.5. Awarded ranking points...
The events included in the ranking between May 2019 and April 2020, which are valid for 24 months.

Let's take a look at badminton. BWF has been looking to restart but has thus far failed. They wanted to implement 3 bubble events in Denmark in October. Thomas and Uber Cup is now postponed to 2021(see next paragraph). Denmark Masters is cancelled as well. The fate of Denmark Open remains to be seen.

Denmark waived the 14-day quarantine for participating countries. China, Japan, France, Germany and a few others were willing to participate. However, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Australia followed suit after Indonesia, and South Korea withdrew, citing COVID-19 and injuries as reasons. Hong Kong was invited as a reserve but has also rejected for similar reasons.
