After the fiasco last year that led to the resignation of Yoo Namkyu, Korea TTA is back with another trial for Tokyo 2020. Man, these guys just don't get tired of it, though lessons learned.

KTTA: How do we go about it? Ctrl-c the JTTA.

3 men and 3 women will be determined:
1 man and 1 woman by world ranking(JWJ and JJH, 11th and 15th in Jan, 2021, respectively),
1 man and 1 woman by final trial, 2 stages spread out over 5 days:
1st selection - 1/29,
final selection 1, 2 - 1/31-2/1, 2/3-2/4,
1 man and 1 woman by recommendation based on results of the final selection.

Can someone explain the Yoo Nam Kyu resignation to me? It sounds like he wanted to determine the Olympic team through many (infinite?) competitions and someone recorded him? What? And he got into trouble?????

Wonder what happened to Seok Ha Jung. She just faded away mysteriously after 2012 Olympics. Just speculation but perhaps she was one of the few who grew fed up of the system.

Can't find much after 2013 when she last won the national for the 3rd time, beating JJH in the final :p. Then in another news in 2015, it's reported she has retired along with a few other imported players.

Timetable for KTTA Olympic Trial Matches

KTTA has finalized the streaming schedule. Time table for the matches, however, is still not provided. Time table for the training sessions is, though. Yay!

http://www.koreatta.or.kr/servlets/...board=notice&board_seq=9390&b_cate=&b_search=

According to the link above, it will start at 10:00 Korea Standard Time on 1/31-2/1 and 2/3-4. What about the first day?

I viewed the link and KTTA updated the schedule of matches for 1/31-2/1, the first leg of the final selection stage. Here is the English Translation. Note: I just used Google's Auto Translate. Just note that the names "Coarseness" is Cho Daeseong, and "Ision" is Lee Zion.

cache.php

I didn't include the schedule for February 3-4 yet, which are the dates for the 2nd leg of the final selection stage since the schedule of the 2nd leg will be dependent on the results of the 1st leg of the final selection stage, which will happen from January 31 to February 1.

Apparently, the final selection stage is a double round robin, where a player plays each other player twice. It is divided into 2 legs.
  • The 1st leg is from January 31-February 1 (First round robin)
  • The 2nd leg is from February 3-February 4 (2nd round robin)

Based on my understanding, the winner of the Olympic trials will be the top player based on his/her 1st leg ranking and 2nd leg ranking results. Every win is 2 pts, a loss is 1pt and a withdrawal is 0 pts. If there is a tie, Head-to-Head record is the tiebreaker. If there is still a tie, games won and loss ratio will be the tiebreaker. Please correct me if my understanding is incorrect. I've copied and pasted the original text so those fluent in Korean may give a clearer interpretation:

This shows once again why China actively avoids internal trials for something as important as the Olympics. The only known instance was for the 2nd spot of men's doubles for Athens 2004, as they really couldn't decide between MLin/CQ and WLQ/Yan Sen(MD gold medalists of Sydney 2000 and MD Champions of WTTC 2003). KLH/WH were the MD Runner-up of WTTC 2003(and MD Champions of WTTC 2005) and Yan Sen had a car accident that broke his playing wrist just several months ahead of Athens 2004. In the end, the pair of KLH/WH lost to Waldner/Persson.

Not even Japan uses them, for good reason, as they know Ishikawa and sidekick Kato WILL crash the party.

Current Korean national team players are the most inconsistent ones I have ever seen, not like I call them they play bad, they play good and they are talented but just cannot keep up and make a consistent streak in both local and international competitions. One tourney, Jeoung Youngsik shines, anothrr day An Jaehyun, Jang Woojin was the latest player that shined in World Tour Finals.Lee Sangsu was WR.7 2 years ago. But neither of them were simultaneously better. What is the problem?
