BTW, JTTA announced their WTTC lineup 3 weeks ago.

Togami: I am fitter for Hayata!
Harimoto: Do you have an Olympic medal? I have hugged her before. Have you?

The end of the 2022 All Japan Championship marks the beginning of the points race towards Paris 2024. Japan has 3 domestic tournaments for 2022:

March 5-6, 2022 Tokyo: Arena Tachikawa Tachihi
September 3-4, 2022 Fukuoka Prefecture (planned)
November 16-17, 2022 Chiba Prefecture (planned)
Source: https://jtta.or.jp/national/selection (2nd document ... Use translate.google.com for translation)

The 1st tournament is a bit problematic because it ends just before the Grand Smash Asia, March 7-20, which ITTF lists as TBC (to be confirmed) so there won't be much time to adjust.

The top 32 male and female Japanese players will be vying for points in a race for being selected to the Paris 2024 Olympic team. Good luck to all the players!

Both Togami and Uda knocked out.

Incredible win for Miyu Nagasaki over Mima Ito. She's had trouble in the past with a slow recovery after forehand but seems to have fixed it. She still needs to figure out what she wants to do when her middle is attacked. But she played smart attacking Mima's wings. Congrats to her.

This tournament also has implications for selection to the 2022 World Teams Championship team. Mima Ito (Olympic Bronze Singles) and Hina Hayata (All Japan Champion) were already selected. I believe by making the semi-finals in this tournament, Hitomi Sato, Miyu Nagasaki, and Miyuu Kihara will make up the remaining members of the womens team.

Here's BFF Miyus reaction after they made the semis and thus making the World Teams Championship Team for Japan.

Mizuki Oikawa beats Koki Niwa to advance to the Finals to meet Harimoto..

Miyu Nagasaki wins 4-0 over Hitomi Sato to advance to the Finals to meet Hina Hayata who beat Miyuu Kihara. 4-2. The Miyus, despite making the semi-finals/final at this extremely competitive domestic tournament, won't even be going to the Singapore Smash due to the 6 player per nation limit (and they didn't receive any WTT nominations for extra players).

thats why JTTA makes those tournaments. They are angry with the WTT reform

@Dream2k
Kenta has retired from international competition a while ago. He is only still playing in domestic tournament (T-League with TT Saitama, National championships 2nd place this year).

btw Mizutani has officially retired. There was a formal ceremony for him before the TLeague finals. He wasn't on the pitch with his team Kinoshita Meisters. So he had 3 official matches after the Olympics, 3 doubles played in Tleague, the last one in October 2021.

Mizutani now is a lot on TV. He was commenting the Winter Olympics. He has a weekly show on TV Tokyo too where he coaches beginners, amateurs and TV viewers.
