Olympic singles qualifiers in Doha

The winners in each of the knockouts qualifies. For women, there are four KO's + the second stage where losers in previous KO's get a second chance. For men there are three KO's plus a second stage. I am not sure what the point of these games are. Quadri Aruna participated, and unless there are going to be zero African players at the Olympics, I don't see how he isn't going to qualify automatically.

Well there are other opportunities to qualify then – including by ranking and a European qualifying event. Seems very complicated, and a bit strange that Pitchford if he won the final would quilafy that way and the qualifying by ranking would drop a place (I think).
