    Dima's forehand(?) push

This has probably been addressed before somewhere, but what's the rationale for Dima using his backhand when pushing on the forehand side? Seems awkward and something no coach I know of would teach. Any thoughts?

Perhaps it is because Dima is more confident with his BH and is not surprisingly as his BH is well known to be very good.

Now, moving on to my personal experience for sharing purpose: My BH is more stable than my FH and I attack mostly with my BH. I love to move to my FH side to push using my BH to the far FH side of my opponent. It usually comes back to my FH side and I am ready to push down the line or if it is a bit high or if the ball has less underspin, then it is a BH loop kill for me down the line.

If by chance my opponent is able to loop to my far BH side while I am on the FH side of the table, then I have to rely on my footwork to cover the BH side.

However, from experience, the ball comes to my FH side more often than not.

p/s: I am assuming both my opponent & myself are right handed. If left handed opponent, then I reverse the sequence.

Never got an answer from the man himself, but Schlager has argued on about.com that Dima doesn't do it because he hasn't developed it.

Maybe he is looking for the backhand flick a lot? And sometimes need to push.

I think the times when he does his bh push he usually looks like his mind had been made up in regards to shot selection.
