here is the list of the players

https://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/tabletennis/2021/tournament/wttc2021-national-qualifier/#players

Olympians do not need to compete. so i guess there are only 2 tickets , and a probably a 3rd for Men's as Mizutani announced his retirement.

We can see that some players seem to be definitely out of favor / out of form to get into the JNT

For example Yuya OSHIMA, or Kenta MATSUDAIRA are missing

Maybe not a coincidence, Kenta announced on his Twitter that he will start selling online TT lessons. Probably already focusing on his life beyond his time as a player

The prospectus states that only those Olympians who have medalled are automatically selected.

Matsu-ken announced on his Twitter in 11/2019 that he would retire from international competitions. Oshima has been bothered by injuries.

To be honest, I have had enough of Niwa as well. May as well retire early. He is just another Ishikawa. Nothing but a dead weight in singles at Tokyo 2020, yet he's only 26.

Butterfly says Kato forfeits.
https://www.butterfly.co.jp/takurepo/topics/detail/016954.html

She just announced on her Twitter a few hours ago that she will not participate in WTTC Houston trial and WTT Star Contender Doha, prioritizing her own psychological and physical health instead. She's pulling a Naomi Osaka here?

I guess losing to Hayata at the ATTC trial 2 months ago was the last straw? Also, Hayata as the reserve player for Tokyo 2020 shows how the JTTA sees them? Nagasaki, Kihara, and Haruna Ojio were invited as sparring partners for Tokyo 2020, over Kato, Ando, and Sato/Hashimoto. Maybe the latter turned it down? COVID-19 restrictions? But as the host, they could always make exceptions.

Will it take place?
There are no lists of participants on the ITTF website, although all deadlines for applications have already passed ...

Oshima has been bothered by injuries.
More details. He was diagnosed with spinal disc herniation some time in 2019.

https://rallys.online/person/player-voice/2021oshimayuya02/

However, the cost of running around the court by pushing the body, which is not so big as 169 cm, to the limit was great. Pain began to run on his back. The diagnosis was herniated disc. Due to pain, his trademark forehand faded and that adversely affected his footwork as well. He couldn't play his ideal game as envisioned.

Finally, in July, he abstained from the Australian Open, a platinum tournament with a large number of points, due to back pain.

You cannot regain your original play without surgery. I knew it. However, if you have surgery, you will not be able to practice during the rehabilitation period, and you will not be able to go on a World Tour until you recover. Two slots will be decided for the Tokyo Olympics by World Ranking in January. The third slot is by recommendation of the association, but it is unlikely that a player who has not played in competitions will be selected. It meant that the selection race was virtually over for him.

Since then, Oshima has not been on the stage of international competitions and had back surgery in November.

Men's results

Here are the 8 players advancing in the next stage

A) UDA, KIZUKURI

B) MORIZONO, TOGAMI

C) SHINOZUKA, HIRANO

D) OIKAWA, TANAKA

haven't seen SHINOZUKA play but he's becoming a terror. He also qualified in the qualifiers for the Asian Championships
