Sato retrieves the ball from a very wide angle. After the ball makes contact with the table, it comes off both sideways and downwards. It's a tough call for the umpire to make in a split second.

I would have ruled it a side but those controversies are not going to end today...

This was a bit of a strange tournament with Covid stopping the progress of both Miu Hirano and Miyuu Kihara. I hope they will be okay. Mima clearly was the fresher player without having to play a semi finals that was supposed to take place with Kihara. Hayata had to struggle through a 7 game match with Miyu Kato and not much time between that match and her match with Mima. On a positive note for her, she's now ranked 6th in the world: https://www.ittf.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/2022_5_SEN_WS.html !

Finally updated the rating? It's amazing! My special congratulations to Hina Hayata!

Interestingly, the base points in the current 20 percent of the old points.
And by the beginning of May of this year, these 20 percent will be canceled ...

In this case, Hina Hayata can switch places with Doo Hoi Kem...

The ITTF claims that the old points in the ranking will be canceled by May of this year (now only 20 percent of them remain).

Here's what happens:
S.Y.S. 7580-3280=4300
C.M. 7175-3950=3225
ITO Mima 5216-3166=2050
WANG Manyu 5011-2911=2100
Yidi 4427-2207=2220
HAYATA Hina 3564-1379=2185
DOO Hoi Kem 3172-1872=1300
ISHIKAWA Kasumi 3110-2220=890
F.T. 3070-2116=954
JEON Jihee 2948-1828=1120

Of course, this is pure theory, without taking into account possible tournaments (Oman, Qatar) until May...

Eventually the initial ranking points will reach zero, but I don't think that has to happen in May because the percentage is listed as TBD starting in Week 18 in the transition plan chart. It might end up being 0, but the ITTF could decide to drop it to maybe 10.

It's still listed as TBC (to be confirmed), but the 2022 ITTF event calendar lists the Grand Smash Asia, March 7-20 so that will be a good source of points.

Yes, you are right ... I made a mistake, sorry, I misunderstood ... There is no exact data that the complete reset of old points will be before May ...

Theoretically, following the results of this tournament, C.X.T. and Adriana Diaz have a chance to enter the top ten ...

I agree...
But, unfortunately, the new algorithms for calculating the ITTF rating can bring it into the top 10...
:(
(she is seeded number one in Oman... how long can she go, meaning nine Chinese women...)

Diaz is currently #11 in the ITTF rankings.
2914 points.
Jeon Jichee - #10, 2948

Jeon Jichee does not participate in the tournament, so her result remains the same - 2948
Diaz entered in the tournament, seeded under nr.1, that is, immediately in R-32.
It is enough to win only one game, and she will score 35 points. 2914+35=2949

Although it all depends on the result of C.X.T. - if she wins the tournament, it will be nr.9, and J.J. and F.T. go down...

CXT rarely loses to anyone outside of China so I expect her to win this tournament. I count 8 Chinese players in the qualifying rounds so that will be a big challenge for Adriana.

She's better than anyone else from the Americas or Europe, and still improving. Probably top 10 is a bit too high, but she's not far off.

Adriana Diaz definitely has legit top 10 potential. One can watch her matches against Ishikawa or the Chinese etc. And see it.
