The ITTF have just released the latest World rankings! The rankings were published by the International Table Tennis Federation on Friday 1st June 2012.

--- Zhang Jike is the new World number 1 ---

Reigning World and World Cup Champion Zhang Jike is the new World number 1 for the very first time in his career and takes the top spot! China's Zhang Jike overtook Ma Long who remained at the number 1 spot for 8 months. Recently Zhang Jike won the Korean Open World Tour 2012 and lost in the semi final of the China Open. Alternatively, Ma Long lost in round 2 of the Korean Open to Korea's Lee Sang Su and lost in the final of the China Open to compatriot Xu Xin. This has allowed Zhang Jike to overcome Ma Long in world ranking points. Zhang Jike pictured below when he was crowned World Cup Champion last year.

Zhang Jike entered the ITTF world rankings in 2002. 10 years later he is now the world number 1 in June 2012. Only 1 point separates world no. 1 Zhang Jike (2933) from world no.2 Ma Long (2932)!

No. 5 (Ma Lin), no.6 (Timo Boll), 7 (Jun Mizutani) remained in the same positions with positions 8 and 10 changing. Chuang Chih Yuan jumped 2 places to position 8, something he has not done in 8 years! Korea's Joo Se Hyuk dropped two places to number 10 completing the top 10 listings!

china open was just the icing on top, but korean open has most to do with it, ML lost at an early round and earning low points and zjk winning, 1 point is crazy though, but good for zjk although i like ML more zjk has earned his way to the top, be it luck or just hardwork and talent nobody can deny he has the major titles around his belt and deserves the no 1 spot

One point difference haha that's amazing :D
Joo is down by 2 ranks but at least he is not out of the top 10. C'mon Joo!
CCY is getting deeper in the top 10 after his long struggle. Good to see, hope he could keep it up.

Young defenders highlight:
Yuto Muramatsu JPN --> Up 38, now in WR 121
Ruwen Filus GER --> Up 18, now in WR 57
Go defenders!

Boss! 1 point is sick haha. Do you get points from Olympics? If so Ma Long is screwed :p Great for Chuang doing so well also. At least the top-3 is now as it should be, although there can be discussion about the rank of the players within it ;)

Haa yes the 1 point gap is amazing. Ma Long and Zhang Jike will play no tournaments until the London 2012 Olympics therefore ZJK will enter as world number 1. I am pretty sure ranking points count for Olympics as the Olympic qualifications included ranking points.

I remember before we were all discussing about ML, ZJK & Xu Xin will be the next top 3 driving forces of the world. It now looks to be the case :)
