Hello All,

Reading through some threads I faced that some compare players to USATT rank (like advanced newbie ~1700).
Could someone put some more light on this rank system, how ranks are calculated, what is your starting rank (guess it's not 0).

Starting rank is based on how you want to enter for the first time. If you feel you play at a 1500 level, you enter a tournament with an estimated rating of 1500. Then based on your performance in that tournament, you are adjusted to a more "true" rating. Although, USATT ranking is a little more inflated compared to ETTU. A 1900 player here is most likely a 1600-1700 there.

So, If I'm completely new to rank, I start with 1500 and after first rank tornament rank is adjusted to results?

Well, for your first tournament in USATT, you should enter in however level you think you are at. It's weird, I know. I think what you should do is visit a TT club in the US and play a couple of players and ask what you should enter in at. Most of the rankings in USA are based on the area.
