Coming from a legal standpoint you should just claim the views as your own. If you own the copyright to the videos you can actually earn monetization from other people's channels that use your videos. Technically speaking anything less than 30 seconds can be used if it's for educational purposes. If you want more exposure just take the view count and add it to the youtube/google earnings.

Yeah that's true. The only bad thing about it is that you have to be partnered with Youtube to get the money. This means that you can't have any copyrighted material in your own videos. But if you own all rights for the material used in your videos then you can get money from your own videos that others have uploaded to their channels.

I guess with this particular guy and his channel, what seems most strange is, the videos appear to be gone when you go to his channel, but when you click on those links, it does not say they have been deleted, it says they are PRIVATE, which means he actually has not deleted them. YOU, just cannot see them.

It would say that the video had been removed by the uploader if it had been. It would say it was removed by YouTube if they had. But, it says the video is private, which means it is still there.
