    Fake Butterfly 3 Star Ball

I got this ball during a table tennis club dinner party 2 days ago. A unknown guy is doing some kind of promotion of his store/shop. He claims he can sell Butterfly balls in a cheaper price. About $0.50 - $0.65 USD per ball. Obviously the logo of this ball looks different than the official one.

this is the message from butterflyonline.com

    Dear Butterfly Users:

We have received some information from some of our foreign distributors that imitation Butterfly products are available in some markets. This applies in particular to the following:

    Sriver L
    Sriver FX
    Ekrips
    Tackiness Drive
    Tackifire
    Flextra
    Butterfly 3 star balls

We are concerned that you may inadvertently buy some of these imitation products and therefore ask you to be very careful as to where you purchase your Butterfly products. Only use well established table tennis specialist shops or bonafide sports shops in order to protect yourself from this fraud.

Please be aware that we cannot be responsible for the playing performance and quality of the Butterfly products that you may buy from other players, coaches, trainers and other non-bona fide traders.

i played on the fake ball last night, it feels like 1 star training ball. simple as that.

Here in indonesia, its just so common to see fake three star balls
And the price here is like IDR 3000 or 30 dollar cents for a fake three star ball.
Ironically, the official double fish one star ball only costs around IDR 1500 or 20 dollar cents.

Yeah, buying from the official distributor would be the best choice.

Our TT Club in my college bought a gross of fake 3 Star DHS balls once. They didn't even feel like 1 star balls, they were literally just round pieces of plastic. It was awful.

I decided that whenever bulk supply of cheap balls was needed, I'd look to Gamblers... they're pretty cheap and play satisfactorily.

    True it is.

It is easy to say that since 1st world country could easily demolish counterfeits.
Yet here in Indonesia some people stay alive by making these kinds of imitations, which is kinda sad.
It is a dillema for our government because by destroying counterfeits, they also destroys life. This is not exaggerated though.
Enough of my sad story .
Anyway, buying from the official dealer is the best choice, esp. for those who are serious about table tennis.

What is the point of this? Surely they would have to sell an extraordinary number of them to get even - considering their low price and the money needed for equipment!

The worst ball I've ever played with was in school, where it was two halves of a hemisphere joined together with a thin strip of sellotape. My school but a whole bucket of these balls due to their lac of tt knowledge

This will make you laugh (it did for me anyway)

Anyway, has anyone seen the TSP ball on market after the 40mm ball rule ?
It seems that TSP balls had a high quality and great durability.

Yes, there are a LOT of fake 3 star balls. Not only balls though, fake tenergys are also sold here in Indonesia

The fake ball cost about 10.000 IDR for three balls (1 USD).

Fortunately, these fake balls are 90% different in characteristics, although they have exactly same stamples and size..

Just by holding it, if you have been playing for sometimes you will know the difference. The balls are a lot lighter and it bounces significantly lower.

The most faked brands are Nittaku and Butterfly.
