According to chinatt.com Sina Weibo, on March 29, 2014, CNT men's team had a closed training game for 2014 WTTTC.

Four players, i.e. Zhang Jike, Ma Long, Xu Xin, Fan Zhendong, played in the training game. These four players as well as Wang Hao who is now competing at German Open are scheduled to represent China in upcoming 2014 Tokyo WTTTC. The game was played using new plastic ball.

The four players are divided into two teams with Zhang Jike and Ma Long forming Team 1 and Xu Xin and Fan Zhendong forming Team 2. The punishment for the losing team will be 10,000m running. All other players participated in betting. Everyone bet on Team 1 except for Liu Jikang, Shang Kun, Fan Shengpeng, Lin Gaoyuan, Zheng Peifeng, Lai Jiaxin, who bet on Team 2.

The result: Team 1 won (3-1)

Match 1: Ma Long 3-1 Xu Xin
Match 2: Zhang Jike 3-2 Fan Zhendng
Match 3: Ma Long 3-1 Fan Zhendong
Match 4: Zhang Jike vs Xu Xin. Zhang Jike withdrew due to foot blisters

Great!
Zhang Jike withdraws again. I'm sure he wasn't injured, Just didn't see any reason to play because they were already in a 3:0 lead. Zhang Jike is real bad boy!

It will be interesting to know how they felt about new balls.

I just read two review about new plastic balls that were posted 1 week ago. the last two sentences were:
"i personally don't think the change is going to affect our game at all"
"In the 5 to 10 minutes I hit with it I can safely say I'm not going to worry about the change."
So i think they have almost no problem playing with them.

Any update about the equipment they used for playing with new plastic ball?
New balls are not going to be used in 2014 WTTTC so the didn't changed their equipment yet.

In the reviews of new balls that was written and i read last week it was said that new balls are very similar to current balls and they are almost the same.
So i think they will not change their equipment a lot. Probably just boost their rubber more or something like this.

Here are the those reviews: http://www.tabletennisdaily.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?7786-Review-Of-New-Plastic-Balls

Some observations of the closed training games by chinatt.com Weibo.

Why did Fan Zhendong lose? Fan Zhendon's play relies too much on backhand flicks, and his forehand's abilities are still lacking. Also, the quality of his short game is poor. The plastic ball has a lower degree of spin compared with the old one, which results in its rapid drop, and this feature makes it hard to flick. When Fan Zhendong could not have quality flicks, his whole play would be interrupted. In comparison, Zhang Jike and Ma Long have more varieties and are more mature in their plays, and they are adapting and adjusting well.

Ma Long was very agressive in attacking the service return, not afraid to attack, very consistent in forehand, and has the ability to kill. However, his backhand defense is still weak. Because the new ball has the tendency to drop rapidly, sometimes he would miss his loop shot in a rally. Overall, Ma Long has made good adjustment to the new ball.

Zhang Jike was excellent in rhythm control, adapting to the new ball very fast. He increased the speed in his backhand attack, and was able to accelerate it first, which put some pressure on Fan Zhendong. Also, Zhang Jike is more experienced and has more varieties in short games. And, his overall forehand ability is better than Fan Zhendong, therefore, he was not in a disadvantage in a rally.

Original Chines Tex:

Note: I'm not very good at translating technique analysis in TT. I provided the original Chinese text for each section so that someone in this forum who is fluent in both Chinese and English may want to take a look to see if I got it right.

Oh, another thing, according to the report, it seems that the new ball is more susceptible to break. During Zhang Jike and Fan Zhendong's match, they broke two balls. Guess because both of them are known for having powerful shots.

Ma Long's forehand is also very powerful. Wondering why the balls break only in Zhang Jike vs Fan Zhendong match.

Anyway, They adjusted to new balls fast and easily. Good to hear this because i was a little bit afraid of those balls.
Every review in last years said new balls are totally different and it take some months to adjust to them. But now they are so much like current balls that CNT players were able to adapted to it in just one match! Nice engineering by DHS

Thats interesting. 2 breaking in one match... and they used ITTF approved balls in this competition.

What makes you think they "adapted to in in just one match" and did not had many hours of training prior to this match?
Also what confirms that the balls only broke in ZJK vs FZD and not a Ma Long match too?
Sounds like you made a solid conclusion on what happened, so I'm simply just asking if you have all the facts.

The aim of closed training is lifting the players to their best for 2014 WTTTC. And new balls will not be used there. So i think it's waste of time to train with new balls for many hours.
I'm not 100% about it but training with the balls that are not going to be used in WTTTC for many hours in closed training is irrational.

Even if they trained for example 1 week and adjusted to it in that time, then it is still a very good news.

Also i haven't any source to be sure balls only broke in Zhang Jike vs Fan Zhendong match. But zjkfanforever only said 2 balls broke there.
