How much should TT players earn per match

I shared the news that Dima and Timo will get paid USD16000 per match in the Chinese super league.
A forum member said that is not enough. So what is enough? What is inline? What is more correct?

I don't have all the stats, but I do believe USD16000 per match is a big number in many sports.
What do you guys feel the income of a table tennis player should be? Baring in mind, we need to compare with other non tier 1 sports. If you like to compare with Basketbal or Football, then maybe Dima should join the NBA rather

Some extra info about Chinese Super League:

      Date: 17 May 2014 till 10 August 2014.
      Top players earn RMB 2 million a season (3 months) - USD320 000 or USD100 000 per month.
Higest was RMB 5 mllion a season (3months) - USD800 000 or USD267 000 per month, but they have since lowered the cap down to RMB 2 million
The above is also based on match appearance, so the max they play, that is the max amount they will get paid etc.

USD16000 per match x a possible of 18 matches (not including 2nd round),
      Which is USD288 000 a session
Potential 2nd round is a max of 3 matches so an extra of USD48000, so making it a total of USD336 000 a sesson

I think they should get more money.

In football Ronaldo get nearly 30,000,000 USD last year just by playing for Real Madrid . If Timo can get even 700,000 USD per year, it is still 1/50 of Ronald's. But he is the Europe's best like Ronaldo and he is training as much as he.
It's really unfair. I don't mean Timo must get 30M USD just saying he should get at least 5M USD per year.

So much for not comparing with tier 1 sports.
If we are going to compare with tier 1 sports, then my advise is, don't play table tennis or any other non tier 1 sports at all

But baring in mind, the seasons are different, one can play in say Russian league and Chinese league for table tennis.

Guys don't forget that footballers are being overpaid by a large margin... i know there is much more money in football than in TT, but still ... 1 mill per season is good enough for any hard working man/woman.

It's silly how much players in some sports get, but 288-336k$ for a TT player is not bad.

If you think US$336000 is not much, then dont play table tennis.Go play some football.

remember, its a person's choice what sport they want to play, and they also know the earnings,so if they happy with it,why are you jumping?

The winner walked away with USD2.3 million, 2nd place was $1.15, SF was $437k
And that was just one tournament basically

Yep, its a choice that we all made, including our tt players.

Also note, Dima/Boll will make say $300k in China in 3 months, then they will head out and earn some more moneys in say Russia league and some invitations tournaments in USA, prize moneys from world tours, champs, there is a lot.
I would say they should be earning in TT (salary) in the range of $500k to $1million per year, I recall Timo Boll shared his earning a long time ago, can't remember that. Endorsments will be extra.

Now if $1 million salary is not sufficient, then the problem is not your job, its how you spending the money

Australian open is one of the biggest at all.
I think the difference is that they even get prize for quarterfinals and for every match they win. In table tennis it's not like that as I know, only the winner and runner up get the prize, maybe I am wrong

Regarding tennis, those players pay for EVERYTHING. They pay for their accommodation, flights etc. so they take the whole risk on them. As far as I know the big guns in table tennis get their tournament expenses paid by the national federations. So the risk for them is non-existent.

If you talk about the big guns of table tennis you have to compare them to the big guns of tennis. I am sure all the decent tennis players are sponsored and who cares about having to pay for a cuple of nights at a hotel if you get $20,000 basically just for participating in a "small" tour event.

No Money in Ping Pong? - Part II

It seems that people showed some interests in the ping pong incoming in my random thoughts (http://goo.gl/0gFVr4got). This is just a follow-up on the same topic, by no means a thorough investigation.
According to the Dec 2010 article, Liu Guoliang claimed that top players in the Chinese Super League could make 1 to 2 million RMB (US$160K to 330K) in the 3-month season. He also said that the endorsement should be more.
Liu was invited to give a speech to the Chinese Soccer team. In the speach, Liu Guoliang questioned the players of the Chinese soccer players, "Do You Think You Make More Than Ping Pong Players?" Job well done.
This 2003 article said that Ma Lin netted US$45,000 while Zhang Yining US$84,000 in 2002 - prize money alone. However, prize money was not their major income. The majority of their income came from their Super League clubs as well as commercial endorsement. Some top players in the National Team could make over US$330K. (salary + prize + endorsement) Even the 2nd or 3rd tier players got close to US$50K.
In this 2012 article, it listed some coaches/players cars. Liu Guoliang drove an Audi Q7. Ma Lin bought a BMW X5 in 2009 and traded to a Cayenne in 2012, same as Kong Linghui’s. Wang Hao and Zhang Yining both drove BMW but no models specified.
Ma Lin owned a single family house in Beijing worth over US$3M. His ex got US$83K in cash and a single family house, also in Beijing, worth over “a few million RMB” (1M RMB ~= US$166K) when they divorced.
Although the Chinese Table Tennis Association had capped the Super League salary to US$167K, the top tier players could make ~US$600K in the 3-month season. Players like Ma Lin and Wang Liquin could make more.
So, no money in Ping Pong?
