LSW big gamble if injury is still a concern, SYS good replacement as has proven can play XD with XX win a title together and singles has a good record against Mima.

Some reason just feel SYS is better option, Mima beat ZYL on Austria. Don't think she would be as confident getting past CM & SYS players who have recently beaten her.

I just don't think team of LSW, DN, ZYL is a safe option. Right now for me personally given injury to LSW shen would be better suited to XD and team event than singles. Just my opinion.

The main event is a year away. They will figure it out.

So the top 8 seeded players are:
1. FZD
2. XX
3. ML
4. LGY
5. LJK
6. WCQ
7. ZZH
8. XCH

FZD and XX won’t meet till finals. The toughest draws for FZD would be against LJK or WCQ in quarter finals and then against ML In semi finals. Throwing in other lower ranking and dangerous players, this simulated tournament should be much tougher than the real Olympic Games.

The Taiwanese team says, "We need to outpace the CNT in holding a mock Olympics!"

4 August to 5 August 2020: XD, WD and MD.

Lin Yun-ju/Cheng I-Ching, Chuang Shih-Yuan/Chen Chien-An, Chen Szu-yu/Cheng Hsien-tzu

Seems like it will just be a series of practice matches for the above players, who are almost confirmed going to be the lineups for Taiwan. Not sure where these matches will be broadcasted though.

CNT's Mock Olympics Participants & Seeding List

Men's Team

1) Ma Long, Xu Xin, Fan Zhendong
2) Lin Gaoyuan, Liang Jingkun, Wang Chuqin –> Two lefties + one righty = mock Japanese MT?
3) Yan An, Zhou Qihao, Liu Dingshuo –> All righties so mock SKorean MT?
4) Xu Chenhao, Zhou Yu, Zhao Zihao –> One leftie + two righties = mock Swedish or German MT?
5) Fang Bo, Yu Ziyang, Xue Fei –> One leftie + two righties = mock Swedish or German MT?
6) Zhou Kai, Sun Wen, Zhang Yudong –> A weaker full righties team = mock Taiwanese MT??
7) Zheng Peifeng, Xiang Peng, Xu Haidong
8) Ren Hao, Zhao Zhaoyan, Xu Yingbin
9) Cao Wei, Yu Heyi, Sai Linwei
10) Liu Yebo, Quan Kaiyuan, Liang Guodong
11 to 15) Too lazy and don't know who they are
16) Ma Te, Zhang Chao, Hou Yingchao, Cui Qingyan –> !!

Women's Team

1) Chen Meng, Sun Yingsha, Wang Manyu
2) Chen Xingtong, Gu Yuting, Sun Mingyang –> Inverted Rightie + Inverted Leftie + Short Pips = mock Japanese WT?
3) Liu Fei, Wang Yidi, Qian Tianyi –> Chopper + Inverted Rightie + Inverted Leftie = mock SKorean WT?
4) Zhang Rui, He Zhuojia, Chen Ke
5) Li Jiayi, Liu Xi, Hu Limei
6) Che Xiaoxi, Yang Huijing, Mu Zi
7) Fan Siqi, Wu Yang, Zhang Qiang
8) Feng Yalan, Liu Weishan, Shi Xunyao
9) Kuai Man, Wang Xiaotong, Guo Yuhan
10) Chen Yi, Qi Fei, Xian Xiaotong
11 to 14) Too lazy and don't know who they are

XD Pairs

1) Fan Zhendong/Chen Meng
2) Xu Xin/Sun Yingsha
3) Wang Chuqin/Wang Manyu –> Inverted Leftie (M) + Rightie (F) = Mock Taiwanese XD?
4) Zhao Zihao/Chen Xingtong –> Penholder Right + Inverted Right = Mock HK XD?
5) Liang Jingkun/Gu Yuting –> Inverted Rightie (M) + Leftie (F) = Mock SKorean XD?
6) Lin Gaoyuan/Sun Mingyang –> Inverted Leftie + Short Pips Rightie = Mock Japanese XD?
7) Xu Chenhao/Wang Yidi
8) Xue Fei/Liu Weishan
9) Liu Dingshuo/Qian Tianyi –> Inverted Rightie (M) + Leftie (F) = Mock German XD?
10) Yu Ziyang/Mu Zi
11) Zhou Yu/Feng Yalan
12) Fang Bo/Zhang Qiang
13) Zhang Yudong/Li Jiayi
14) Cao Wei/Zhang Rui
15) Zhou Qihao/Chen Ke
16) Hou Yingchao/Liu Fei –> What if they win!

I can't figure out who some teams/pairs are meant to imitate so welcome any discussions. Can I say I'm actually rooting for Team 2 on the WT's side. GYT/CXT is definitely better than any of the pairs Team 1 can form IMO while CXT has the potential to defeat (and has done so before) CM, SYS and WMY. All's left is for SMY to bring down someone, probably WMY. 3-2 yippee to the fake Japanese team!

I will only list the top four seeds for MS and WS as the list is too long and can be found online, albeit with some changes.

MS –> Fan Zhendong, Xu Xin, Ma Long, Lin Gaoyuan. Meanwhile, special permission* has been given to Zhou Yu, Fang Bo, Cui Qingyan, Zhang Chao and Hou Yingchao to advance to the main draw directly alongside the top 16 seeds.

WS –> Chen Meng, Sun Yingsha, Wang Manyu, Wang Yidi. The same special treatment has been granted to Mu Zi, Wu Yang, Che Xiaoxi, Hu Limei and Liu Xi alongside the top 16 seeds.

*Based on a mixture of previous results, playing styles/skills set and age (yep) etc.

Zhu Yuling will not participate as her immune system has been compromised so she's now hospitalised, awaiting results of the checkup.

I don't think the handedness of the players is what is supposed to be mocking another country's NT.

Wang Chuqin is lefty and couldn't play any more differently than Niwa or Mizutani. Same for Lin Gaoyuan to a lesser degree.

Xu Chenhao, Zhou Yu, and Zhao Zihao don't play like anyone from the Swedish team.

Team 6 has zero in common with Lin Yun-ju and Chen Chien An (both lefty), so not sure how you thought a team of all righties was supposed to be mocking that...

Indeed, they do play differently but one of the main goals of this mock Olympics is to "模拟东京对手" which roughly translates "to imitate [their key] Tokyo Olympics opponents". So it's not just about setting up an Olympics-esque atmosphere (in terms of competition length, schedule and format) but also trying to recreate the opponents they may face (i.e. a 'simulation' that is as close to the 'real' deal as possible, should it happen). And we all know CNT has the practice of appointing particular players to adopt the playing styles of their main opponents so that said individuals can be better sparring partners. Hence, my wild guesses at how the teams (apart from Teams 1 on both WT and MT's sides) were formed.

Wow, thanks! When will they play?

Also ZYL got covid? monkaS

Don't think it's a suspected case of covid19. If so, the entire event will be scrapped since they are playing this Saturday (8 August) and the entire team should be under quarantine. And China's covid19 tests are quite efficient so the results of ZYL's swab test should have been out before the news was published.

The selection of LGY/LJK/WCQ is more for testing out the de facto team than for mimicking a particular country. I believe every member of this team has beaten at least once every member of the de facto team. It represents a much tougher challenge than any real Olympic team could offer

Cant wait!

Makes sense. Thanks for sharing. Do you have a source for the rosters you posted above? Curious about the 11-15 teams that were not translated.

But I think Free Bird is probably right in saying that the trio of LGY, LJK and WCQ mainly serves to challenge ML, XX, FZD and also perhaps an (very) early trial for the 2024 Olympics Games in Paris.

This is super awesome what the CNT is doing. In my mind I feel they are prepared to move to from some of the veterans.

The most interesting pairing is XX and SYS for the reason above is they are prepared to move on LSW if she can't convince them she will be ready for Tokyo 2021.

Would also love to see what other teams are doing with similar mock tournaments. Japanese one would be awesome and many familiar names and faces, Chinese Taipei would be also nice to see as well as feel can get few Medals in Tokyo if play their cards right and get the right combinations going in all events.

For those interested in watching the Taiwanese team's mock Olympics, the live stream and replays are all broadcasted on Youtube. You can check Janard's post #327 for the schedule on play. You may also head to https://www.nstc2020.com/schedule and look under "桌球" to see the matchups. Here are the video links.:

August 4, 2020 Morning Session

August 4, 2020 Afternoon Session

August 5, 2020 Afternoon Session

The August 4 Matches include some mixed gender doubles matchups. Notably, Lin Yun-Ju/Cheng I-Ching took on several Men's Doubles Pairings. There was even a Women's Doubles vs. Men's Doubles Match between Huang Yu-Wen/Li Yu-Jhun vs Wang Tai-Wei/Hong Tsu-Hsiang.

The big match of the tournament will happen on August 5, 2020 where former Men's Doubles World Champions Chuang Chih-Yuan/Chen Chien-An take on Taiwan's XD Olympic entry in Lin Yun-Ju/Cheng I-Ching. The match is scheduled at 4:30pm, Taiwan time, but the stream will start at 3:30pm.

Watched quite abit, love Team Chinese Taipei, really hope they can really make a stand in Tokyo 2021 as recent performances on tour and the games have been disappointing.

XD pair definately can win a medal, XD such new concept so no surprises if we see many upsets, think it's more a supplementary event which hasn't established itself yet, so definate opportunity for most teams. Don't think will be prime focus but I still believe will be event taken seriously no doubt.

I still think the games will be dominated by China and Japan Gold Medal playoffs in team events given China #1 ranked teams and Japan top ranked and playing at home. I still believe Chinese Taipei teams both men and ladies can get themselves close to Bronze medal playoffs. Lin Yun-ju can set himself up well for impressive games.

A lot will depend on which version of Niwa shows up... if they still decide to put him out there in 2021, which I expect they will. Keep in mind that any home-field advantage (I think this is overblown) may be nullified if there are limited spectators in 2021.

Definitely a stroke of genius by LGL. Having CCTV live coverage is the envy of all sport events in China.
My prediction is that FZD beats LJK in the semi and then beats ML in the final. CM should beat SYS in women’s final. Curious how far FZD/CM would go. Don’t think CM is strong in double play. Enjoy watching the event as much as you can, you never know, there may not event be Olympic Games next year.;(
