Major embarrassment for ML : He lost 3:0 to FZD again. Completely outplayed and out-powered.

You might call "little" embarrassing when he lost to 36-y-o never WM champion Timo Boll at WC semi but still it was 3:4 and Timo played one of his best matches in last 10 years. Calling major embarrassment when losing to your best contender for several years and probably the best player today is overstatement from my point of view.

Ma Long always loses to FZD in Super league. Maybe you didn't like the way the match looked but it has always looked this bad to me. In elimination matches, Ma Long tends to be sharper and focus in Fan Zhendong's weaknesses much more especially his forehand flick gap and short pushing to get quality opening. May not be enough anymore but we need a tournament match to see this not a Superleague match where Ma Long's team is not seriously contending.

Losing 3:0 against whoever especially when you are ML is surely embarrassment. And this is the second time he lost with the same margin to FZD in this league. Embarrassing or not, I am sure ML does not feel so proud about this.

I love ML but he didn't seem hungry like he can be. He didn't have answers or the footwoork this match.

The chance is almost 0. Actually I planned to make a post about LGL's recent activities. Since you asked, here's the story.

To get along with the new ball, many CNT players changed equipment and did poorly in German Open and most switched back and FZD won the Grand Finals. LGL was said to make phone calls and give suggestions to CNT. But CTTA and Coach Wu Jingping said it was Cai Zhenhua who made the right decision on equipment changing; as one of the many CTTA VPs, LGL supports CNT but was not the decision maker.

On LGL's birthday, he replied to CCTV5 journalist Li Wujun, "You covered TT when I was a player; you covered TT when I became a coach; you still cover TT when I'm retired from coaching". People think he is no longer a coach.

LGL's Weibo introduction has also been changed from "CNT Chief Coach" to "First Chinese Grand Slam Winner".
http://sports.qq.com/a/20180113/007100.htm

I think LGL will not coach CNT as a coach any more. It's said that CNT will soon announce the new coaching team and we will know it officially. What remains unclear is if LGL will still stay in TT field (he has a sports-themed town project and is also busy attending talk shows and variety shows as a mentor) and if he has any power as a CTTA VP.

Rain, I heard from some Chinese friends that LGL will be back as head coach soon. Is there any truth to this ???

Foreign umpires "on invitation"?

China_Super_League employing foreign umpires ? In this video, the assistant umpire does not look asian at all. He is very much like Michael Maze, Danish player.

This really looks like they cut him off for good.. For some unknown reason. And most likely he is not even allowed to talk about it on public.
So maybe if we had an insider, we would know.
All we have left are rummours.

But imagine - how would you feel? Whole life you gave for chinese table tennis and then.. they kick you out..
