Dear all,
I would like to ask if any expert can help me identify the make or wood composition of these 2 old single ply bats?Could it be cypress or hinoki? Both are approximately 8mm thick with no logo.Thank you in advance.

Goodness! Where did you get these beauties from?
Yeah, definitely looks like Hinoki.
Wonderful.
Just glue on some rubbers and enjoy yourself.

Nice catch. They look well ripened and matured. Must have a lovely feeling.

Have you ever played Hinoki blades before?
They are one of a kind. (I know, i know, every tree is unique, but the Hinoki playing properties are very different to the regular limba/ayous/koto combos.

Pls keep us posted how they feel. They look stunning!
Just keep in mind those are real spin machines or rather "spinners' ambrosia", not so much for blocking and hitting, even though the thickness benefits stability and can be helpful too.

This is my first time buying single ply bat. Never tried hinoki wood before. Is it a good idea to use long pips ox on it?or should i use regular inverted rubber?

I personally know at least two guys using ox lp on their single plies, but if you're more into spinning on the bh and not so much into blocking or chopping then smooth rubbers could be more helpful, otherwise just go ahead.

I don't have photos and have never played with it. I do remember admiring it in a TT shop, 35 years ago or so. I found some images of H-1-9 blades from that era, and am not sure; I didn't find any with such a conical handle shape.

Here's one of the images I did find.
