This year's US Open will be the largest ever featuring nearly 1500 players from the US and around the world playing on 129 tables vying for $68,000 USD in total prize money. I think Kanak will be the favorite in MS, but there are other strong candidates like Benedek Olah and Kim Taehyun, In WS, although not even listed in the event guide (perhaps late entry), I think Minami Ando will take the title. She is the ace player of her T-League team. She may be short, but don't let her size fool you. She's beaten a number of top T-League women and beat SYB back in 2021 at Star Contender Doha.

Could any US club player register for guaranteed participation in the event, or were there qualification tournaments or prerequisites months prior?

5000 participants ... sounds to me like anyone could go there who was willing to pay for the expenses?

US Open is, what its name implies, open to every single person. You can fly in from Japan or Germany and participate if you want to. If you don't have an USATT ratings, you can enter any events you want; I am just not sure if you are deemed over-rated for that rating event, you might not be able to advance out of the group into the singles elimination round.

US Open is usually held right before Christmas each year.

By contrast, US National is held around July 4th weekend and only US citizens or green card holders can enter.

US Open has 1478 entries that were paid. As for how many people actually show up, I am not sure.
