A number of players from Contender Rio that are not invited to WTT Champions Chongqing have shifted over to WTT Contender Mendoza. In MS An Jaehyun and Yuta Tanaka will give it another shot without having to deal with Rio Champion, Hugo Calderano. Headlining WS is Miyu Nagasaki seeded #2 and coming off a fantastic tournament where she beat Hina Hayata deuce in the 7th to claim the championship title.

Three days of qualifier matches, and then the main draw starts on Thursday, May 30.

Kim Nayeong being the #1 seed piqued my interest and boom! She has played 26 events in 2023 (15) and 2024 (11), 28 if counting Rio and Mendoza!

Travelling all the way from Taiyuan to Mendoza doesn't seem very smart to me, but probably was a result of many considerations.
At 1-1 and 8-8 CCY was convinced he hit an edge on the back of the table, Nobody agreed, CCY lost that game and basically threw away the final game, rushing and serving off on match point. CCY then refused to shake Yuta's hand at the end of the match.

Fun fact:
China and Argentina are almost antipodes. Flying almost across the world back and forth for 1 match sounds even more exhilarating than Ping Pong without its very feature...

Neither is going from Rio to Chongqing, then right away again to Zegreb to compete, with almost no break/rest/jet lag adjustment. But ‘grandmother Hayata’ is doing it, with only 45 more days to Paris. Makes absolutely no sense.

I feel he was right about the call, but whether that was deserving of such behavior, who knows...

I rewatch that point and can't figure out how CCY though it hit the edge, prolly old people vision kicking in

Ouch, Miyu got smoked 3-0 10-1 in the 5th by Liu Hsing-Yin. This one got away early. Poor placement. Not anticipation. Slow to react. Well, she's still in WD and XD. Then, a bit of a break before Star Contender Ljubljana, Slovenia. Best of luck to her.

Now that I think about it, Miyu played brilliantly in XD a couple of hours before her Singles match. I wonder if she was drained emotionally and/or physically from the very tough match against the top seed XD pair because she seemed considerably slower in her singles match. She's going to need to recover from it quickly because she has XD SF and WD QF later today.
