Hi guys,

Abit of a long shot but I`m going to be heading around California for a month on Tuesday and am planning on documenting the trip on my GoPro. Surfing, skydiving etc and I want to try and get some TT footage in there as well! :)

I wondered if there are any clubs/players (Or anywhere to find that info!) who would be willing to have a quick knock with me using the Camera? Figured it would be awesome to catch some footage from the chest mounts etc to add to my video!

If anyone could point me in the direction of somewhere and someone to play with, please give me a shout!

Cheers

Joe

There are a lot of clubs in the SF Bay area , especially around Milpitas . Your best options are to go to one of these :

1. WCTTA ( the drop in fee is a bit high but they are very nice ) --> more focussed towards individual coaching
2. ICC --> the biggest and the best facility
3. SVTTC --> hard core chinese table tennis club , the focus is just training. In these sense they don't care about the decor , cleanliness etc, they probably won't even monitor and ask you for your drop in fee. People have only told me good things about the club. Go there find a good player and hit , they only care about how good you are :)
4. Swan --> more recreational players , go after 6:30 PM
5. Topspin --> lost their way after ownership change, not sure how they are doing right now
6. Table tennis America --> never been there, but a lot of good players do train there....

There are may more , pingpongdojo in cupertino , Amanda Ho's club in san francisco , there are meetup groups and clubs in Pleasanton , Pong Planet in San Mateo .... and others that I don't know off / haven't played ..

Wait, I want to make sure I am getting this right. You plan to video, you hitting with someone from a camera mounted to your chest? Is that correct?

Guys, think about how that footage would come out! If you have a decent stance, the camera should be pointing towards the edge of the table on your side. If you are hitting a BH the racket should be in the way of the camera and if you swing with your arm the camera should be completely unstable the whole time and if you have good mechanics and use weight transfer and core rotation the camera will moving around totally crazy. You might as will pick up a camera, set it to film video, point it towards the ground and then move, shake and twist the camera around.

Or, am I missing something.

Haha you are right fella, that footage would make me seriously ill...... Rest assured I have no intention of cracking 40 yard backhands whilst doing the falkenberg!

Just some simple lobbing returns off of smashes. Bat down nice and low, gets a decent camera shot as it accelerates off the table.

It will be more for my non ping playing friends on social media etc to get a true idea of how fast the ball comes at you. Not designed for showing off anything other than that! Should be nice to break up the shots of scenery etc

Yes buddy that sounds good! We`ve got a place in Santa Monica so not too far from you!

It would be nothing more than a quick lobbing exercise whilst we crack some balls at each other. I`m out in US for a month, but won`t have a bat on me, so would need to borrow a spare for a couple of mins whilst we film though.

I`ll message you further deets!

Hi,

If you happen to be in Los Angeles, especially around Redondo/Hermosa/Manhattan Beach areas there is the South Bay Table Tennis club that you can go to and hit. If I'm available I can get you in for free and hit with you. Msg me if you're interested.
