Hey,

I currently play with Stiga All-round Evolution (ARE). This blade is absolutely fine and has seen me progress from a beginner to a player with a now defined style of a two winged looper.

Logically I have no reason to change my blade. Played with it for about a year and a half and know it well - just bought another 2 sheets of Razka 7 max to replace my current Razka and have the itch to try something new.

I see the yasaka sweden extra (YSE) talked about everywhere, and as a bit of a yasaka fanboy I wanna try it out.

What would the main differences be between these blades and how stupid is it to change blade unnecessarily a month before the season starts?

Only reason I would maybe change blade now is to find a blade with a bit more speed but I don’t think that will be a problem until I start facing higher level players.

I had the YSE and didn't particularly like it.
It was a bit slow and had a relatively small sweet spot. I was comparing it at the time to a Yasaka Silverline All Wood which, while not particularly fast either, has a larger sweet spot due to the harder outer veneers.
I can't imagine the YSE adding anything to your game over what you have already so I see no advantage for you to change your blade a mth before the season starts.
I think YSE is something to start with, which you already have.
I'd say play your season with your current blade and new rubbers and then decide if you need more speed, power away from the table etc and try a few blades in the next off-season to see how you like them.

As someone who liked the YSE, I don't encourage lateral blade moves either. Your blade is fine. If you want to try a thicker 5 ply, a 7 ply, or a carbon blade, sure. But same blade speed is just changing lanes with no real difference.

When Gatien (TT World Champion from France) was sponsored by Yasaka, he switched from Stiga Allround Evolution to Yasaka Gatien Extra (it is now Yasaka Sweden Extra). Yasaka Extra was also used by Ma Lin and Wang Hao, before they switched to something else (YEO and Hurricane Hao).

Wait..... wait... but.....everybody said it is an allround+ blade? Yeah, it's true, but back in the days, everybody pour gallons of speed glue thus ALL+ blade was fine.

Basically, Stiga Allround Evolution is about the same speed with Yasaka Sweden Extra (well, a bit softer and a bit slower due to softer outerply).

So I agree with the others, it will not give considerable improvement going from AE to YSE. Stick with your current blade.
