Boosting with baby oil and tear mender

Hi guys, I had never boosted any rubbers and last night I finally gave it a try. I applied a thin layer of baby oil to a semi 'new' tornado V5 rubber that I only played a few times and let it sit for one night. This morning, when I checked the rubber, it seems to be working as the rubber has a slight dome shape but I also find a tiny bubble (very small, size of a needle's head) on the rubber.

I am not sure if this is due to too much baby oil or just bad quality of the rubble. Any thoughts?

I didn't apply one layer of glue before applying baby oil like some youtube vidoes show because I don't have any water base glue and I use tear mender which has been working great. Should I apply a thin layer of tear mender before boosting with baby oil?

Thanks

I have boosted Tornado V5 twice, once with baby oil and once with real booster. I also never do the glue layer, I don't really get what's the purpose of it.

I found that when I boosted the Tornado with baby oil, it had great results. I could hit really spinny loops, and it was really quite nasty.

Another time I boosted a new sheet of Tornado with booster, and I felt like the rubber stayed very dead. It didn't improve much, and I didn't get the same results as the baby oil.

On every other sheet of rubber, booster has always produced better results than baby oil. So I don't know what to make of this one-time result.

Thanks. Maybe this is just one-time result. I will order another sheet and try again. I just glued the rubber back to my blade and I can't really tell the difference 😅.

Why not try a different rubber? I highly recommend Yinhe Jupiter 3. It's only slightly more expensive than tornado, but it is already factory boosted so you don't need to do anything to it. Yinhe Big Dipper and Friendship BLoom Power are good too.

I already ordered a sheet of J3 and will try it out for my fh. I was just curious about boosting and wanted to experience the enhanced performance. My plan was to try it on tornado v5 and if it gets good results, I want to try boosting DHS H3😉.

Boosting definitely works and enhances performance by a lot. But baby oil just doesn't work well. You can definitely try boosting H3 if you have a real booster such as Seamoon or Lidu or Dianchi or something.

How many times do I need to say that oil does not compress much. You want a gas, not a liquid. The next issue is whether the sponge permeable. Some sponges aren't

Do you fill your tires with baby oil?

I got your point. I was just experimenting for fun as at my level of playing, it would not matter if the rubber is boosted or not 🤣

Thanks. Will order a real booster. It is always fun to try and experiment.

Good day to you sir,

Does Seamoon booster have expire date ?

In case we buy one small bottle (100 ml.) Just boosted one time only and how long of the life time of the remain booster left in the bottle ?

Thank you for your kind reply and recommend.

Best regards,

fair comment but when I lay my kitchen sponge into a puddle on my kitchen bench it will soak up the fluids and grows fat.
If on a capillary level a TT rubber-sponge can soak up a fine oil and so expanding itself, and when then the fluid slowly dries but leaving a residue
that prevents some part of the oil to remain in a dried form within the sponge ??????????????????
We do know that this method alters the sponge's characteristics.

Don't shoot, i am only a saxophone player 😂

What other rubbers do you have? some rubbers boost really well, and some others don't boost so well.

I have Yinhe big dipper and AK47 blue on a v14 pro. I also have one unopen H3 neo and Yinhe mercury 2. I guess both H3N and M2 may be boosted according to some of the posts in the forum. TT is a hobby for me as I mostly play TT in office with my co-workers. I am just curious about boosting and how much performance enhancement it can bring to the rubber.

Well H3 certainly benefits a lot from booster. Big Dipper performs already like a boosted rubber, but still benefits somewhat from boosting.

I think AK47 and M2 probably won't benefit much or at all from boosting, but you can try it and report back.

my experience: a bottle of Seamoon of mine got too old like 2 years and the liquid thickened to the point i couldn't spread evenly.

Good day to you sir,

Does your 2 years old Seamoon effect your rubber become dome shape and playing good result than not boost.

Thank you for your kind reply and recommend.

It sounds like I'm about a year ahead of you in terms of discovering about good and cheap equipment.

If you are a looper, then I highly recommend spending a few bucks and getting a inner-alc blade. You can try a Stuor HL5 clone blade or a DHS Fang Bo carbon.

I also got a V14 Pro thinking it would be a good, but it never played well for me actually. It felt hard to maneuver, and it didn't have enough dwell time for me personally.

Sounds like you got some of the best cheap rubbers already. My top 3 FH rubbers would be Jupiter 3, Bloom Power, and Big Dipper.

Best BH rubber would be AK47 red.
