CHINA announce the new coaches for top 4 players! 2017!

In early Arpil, the Chinese National Team announced their men's team coaches for the next two years, including Liu Guozheng, Wang Hao, Ma Lin, Liu Heng and Ma Junfeng, with Qin Zhijian as head coach. However, since Wu Jingping (coach of Xu Xin, Fan Zhendong, Lin Gaoyuan, etc.) is retired, Xiao Zhan (coach of Zhang Jike, Fang Bo, etc.) starts a new position in women's team (now coaching Liu Shiwen, Wang Manyu and Chen Ke), and Qin Zhijian (coach of Ma Long. etc.) is promoted, the coach assignment of the players, especially the Big 4, remains a big concern. Below are the new coaching roles with the top 4 players:

Ma Long - Ma Lin
Zhang Jike - Liu Guozheng
Fan Zhendong - Wang Hao
Xu Xin - Wu Jingping

Unlike women's team who announced the coach assignment right after the Asian Championships, the men's team did not reveal the assignment until yesterday. Zhang Jike is with Liu Guozheng, Ma Long with Ma Lin, Fan Zhendong with Wang Hao and Xu Xin with Wu Jingping. Although Wu Jingping did not apply for the position, he is affiliated with research team and gets a 2-year contract.

According to Liu Guoliang, the assignment is a result of mutual choice. The players' preferences are taken into consideration.

In recent photos/videos of closed training, the coaches mentioned above were watching Big 4 respectively. Liu Heng was watching Lin Gaoyuan.
The only surprise came from the new 2-year contract of Wu Jingping for Xu Xin. Will Wu Jingping help Xu Xin get through the crisis?

I would have hoped that they paired Xu Xin with Ma Lin since it could help to elevate XXs penhold game to another level.

As they mentioned, the pairing was not imposed but based on mutual interest of players/coaches. IMO, the playing style of Ma Long and Ma Lin are quite different to suite each other. Ma long 's game does not need much help anyway apart from BH and FZD style counter loop capability. Also in recent Asia Champs and Marvellous 12 , I found ML little slow to react to counter hits from FZD/LGY and was playing/winning with instincts and experience rather than his thunderous strokes. This, until his luck ran out in the Asians. ML does not seem to be the Captain Invincible of 2016. Hope Ma Lin can help in those areas and give us a new look and more lethal ML.

Liu Guozheng was really popular in China when he saved 7 match points in the SF of 2006 WTTC team events beating Kim Taek Soo. There was a saying, "Marry a man like Liu Guozheng" because he is so trustful.

If Ma Long should somehow be able to obtain the speed that Ma Lin had in his prime, then I dont think there will be anyone who can beat him for the next few years but....I dont think speed can just be passed down so easily, so Id rather have Ma Lin have his technique passed upon Xu Xin who can actually do sth with it.
