Hello Table Tennis Daily community,

Recently, I was testing some blades from different eras, and I couldn't help but wonder: how has the feel of playing table tennis changed over the years?

On one hand, classic blades take me back to a time when the connection with the ball was everything. That unique vibration when you make a perfect stroke and the total control over the game are characteristics that many players appreciate. These blades offer a more "organic" feel, almost as if you have full control over every point.

On the other hand, modern blades have changed the landscape of the sport. Thanks to advanced fibers like carbon, they offer power and stability that traditional blades cannot match. The feeling of having a larger sweet spot and explosive speed is ideal for offensive players. Technology has truly elevated table tennis to new heights!

What do you think?

  • Do you prefer the pure, controlled feel of classic blades or the speed and power of modern ones?
  • Have you experienced the transition between these two types of blades? How did it impact your playing style?
  • Is there a particular blade that has especially marked your game, whether classic or modern?

Wouldn't you need to try those classic blades with the ball that they were used with?

It is very interesting to take an old 38mm Nittaku 3 star and it with it with a modern racket. The 38mm ball is SOOOOOOOOOO much faster and gets sooo much more spin.

If you are testing an old blade from the 38mm days with todays 40+ Poly Ball, you are not feeling the setup with the ball it was originally used with. So, the blade won't do what it did with the 38mm ball with the 40+ Poly ball.
