Hello,

i want to try to play classic defense.
So i need a slow controlled set up to start learning with it.

I thought about something like donic defplay senso with a vega intro in 1,5mm and as a long pip i dont know.
Maybe a Curl P1R in 0,6mm

What do you think about it or do you have other recommandations?

Have you used long pips before? if not, and you dont have anyone to show you, P1R is going to be very hard to use. I'd try a short pip (like 802) first. The defplay is a fantastic choice. I'm sure Vega intro is good as well, but also maybe consider Hurricane 3 37 for the extra spin.

This is gunna sound a little or a lot weird, but a Stiga Allround Evolution in upper 80s+ grams with Tibhar FX-P and Tibhar Grass DTechs in 1.2 will be a good start for you.

Why? A decent balance off offensive potential with CONTROLABLE (easy to do something) chop, punch, and soft serve receive.

A good plus is this will not be a budget buster by any means. Some models of rubber cost more than this setup.

I have played with a Stiga Defensive Pro, with Xiom Vega Europe 1,8mm abd Friednship 755 mystery 3.
So i have a little long pips experience.

Like i said i want the classic defense so i dont need offensive options.
or little to no options.

And you just post a blade without context of the blade?
and is even as expensive as the blade i was asking for.

And where did i wrote something about hardbat?

Not sure if it is a language barrier bit this post seems a little aggressive, not sure what I did but here's my reasoning for listing the blade-

1) Since you started the thread based on a specific premise, I figured you'd make the connection that my suggestion would be in line with your request for a good chopping blade

2) Nowhere in any of your posts in this thread did you talk about budget so I went with something I knew to be high quality

3) Its a great blade for chopping of all sorts, with sponged rubbers or hardbat rubbers. Soft feeling, good flex, high control, and for me a better sized handle than Donic Defplay

More sponge on LP and a slower, maybe sticky rubber, so maybe 999 on a softer sponge of the thickness you like... and 1.6 sponge on ur pips. Anything wood in the DEF+ to ALL or low ALL+ range will suit you, they all have feel. (Talking about older proven wood blades Donic and Stiga)

Yeah, I have to say, if someone is looking for a blade that is good for chopping and classic defense and is not thinking much about offense, this blade looks great and the head size is ideal for that. 165x155mm is a much better head size for what OP is looking for than most of the blades recommended so far in this thread.

The DefPlay has a similar sized head. But nothing else mentioned is even in the right category for if you want a blade for defense and don't need offensive capabilities. So, I think Scarfed Garchomp actually made a pretty good post. The Valor American Chopper is not that much more expensive than the DefPlay and may be a way better quality blade. And, when he posted "The Valor American Chopper" as a post, all anyone who knows how to use the internet would need to do is a search for "Valor American Chopper", and it would have been easy to find that SG was posting information about a blade that would be good for Chopping.

And given that "Chopper" is in the name, it should have been fairly easy to understand that the blade in question is for chopping even if it is made by a company that is known for making HardBat blades.

I think that first post was all that anyone who is paying attention would have needed. But....that does not mean anyone should to want to use that blade. Still, it is worth noting that Scarfed Garchomp was only giving useful information.

In hindsight I don't think it's a completely fair stance to place the whole burden of internet literacy and forum-cultural understanding about the exchanging of information (for lack of a better description of online group habits) on the OP, and on my end it would have certainly been more approachable for me to include extra information about my provision than simply just tossing in a blade recommendation to this thread. I think at the very least I should have included from the get go that I thought the Valor was a good chopping blade in my experience, and I understand that my delivery can be taken as a bit harsh and abrupt

Heading back to the topic however, I think going a soft grippy antispin like Juic Neo Anti, Nittaku Best Anti are actually a much easier option to use for people to gain control in a defensive game with, reason being the smooth surface gives a much more predictable response, especially in the short game and on the first chop against an opener, at the cost of some backspin when chopping heavy topspin.

If you want to borrow spin on chop, I recommend Feint Long 2, and if you want to make spin on chop then Feint Long 3. Thin sponge will give a crisper clearer response and thicker sponge will give a bit more spin with more aggressive strokes, so if you're trying for a more approachable setup then I think thin sponge may be the way to go.

I guess i need to generate spin myself, so i need a grippy long pip, in my class most player use little spin and if i dont generate more they just smash the ball.
It is a small grade between controlled pips and pips to generate spin so i wont get smashed in the ground.

Hello,

i want to try to play classic defense.

If you are TRULY playing for fun & exercise, then it does not matter much what you use.

But otherwise if you are a competitive player especially wanting to play classic defense, you need 3 things to even barely survive in the 40+ plastic ball era.
You can read about these 3 things in the thread below (listed towards the bottom of post #1 in this thread)

So what i read ist that i need grip on my long pips to get spin on the balls.
So a short pip with grip would be also an option if i am not wrong?

with that i have more grip on the pips side

EDIT: but short pips are to hard so a grippy long pip would be the best with a slow blade
